Prince Is A Fan Of Indie 103.1!

And he's accorded the station the exclusive right to play his cover of the classic "Crimson and Clover"! Now who would you rather have as a fan of your station, Prince or David Eduardo?! ;D

No contest - I'd rather have Prince on my side!! :) besides which, any time that you can have the dude doing a cover of ANY song is a GOOD thing!! :):)

Sadly, Indie103 has given in to the Eduardos of the world.

- Many of the best specialty shows, such as Watusi Rodeo and Feel My Heat, have been canceled.
- Others, like Harmony In My Head, have been moved to even more marginal time slots.
- Jonsey's Jukebox, the centerpiece of the station (and where Prince debuted his music) is no longer rebroadcast in the evening.
- Their great, intelligent, and thoughtful morning host has been canned.
- Their program director was replaced with a more industry-friendly guy, who has gone in and tightened up / made boring the playlist.
- To my knowledge, the weakest link in the station, the oppressive TK, is still there.

Indie was once worthy of all the awards it was winning. It didn't have huge ratings, but it had a great buzz, a great demographic, and I imagine very low overhead. It had fans worldwide. Now, they've lost their creative edge.

And people wonder why the ratings are lower, much lower, than ever.

Put a fork in Indie. It's done.

They are no lower than they were before any of the changes were done. Changing a morning show with a 0.3 share on a 0.5 overall (25-54) station is a no brainer, by the way.

The real problem is that they lost the sales association with 93.5, and their selling station manager, and revenues are apparently off much more than the overall market. So, as a consequence, they are cutting costs as is everyone else in this economy, whether in radio or nut and bolt distributing.

Is KDLD and KDLE's signal synchronized for a continuous signal area from LA to below Huntington Beach?

As much as any FM can be synchronized, they are. That means center frequency, audio delays to match the link distances, etc.

Dave should go purify himself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka. :D

And who is going to bring more cash flow into your station if you take their advice? David Eduardo or Prince?

of course it's gonna be "The Purple One" (aka Prince) from Minneapolis... 8) Prince has a proven track record over the years - what is Eduardo's record?? ???

What record does Prince have in creating ratings and revenues for radio stations?

That's an interesting question! I'm sure David has had an illustrious career in generating cash flow for the stations he's consulted, but on an aesthetic basis, I think I'd rather hear a station programmed with Prince's input! :)

The same Prince who starred in "Under The Cherry Moon"? Bet we all forgot about that one, didn't we?

If I owned a station, I would want DE's input. He has a proven track record.

Why are you people even comparing Prince to David Eduardo? They're not in the same field. It's like comparing Stanford's cheerleading squad to the UCLA basketball team. It doesn't make any sense.

I guess some people, even in the holiday season, need a reason to take cheap shots at somebody who knows what they're doing for whatever their petty reasons may be.

Fair enough that they need to cut costs, and I'm sure the morning show cost some money. But that doesn't explain moving shows, shortening the playlist, or failing to rebroadcast Jonsey. All of those decisions saved not a penny, and made the station less interesting.

And speaking of nothing, I don't think the people doing two hour specialty shows like Feel My Heat or Watusi Rodeo got paid much, if anything. Feel My Heat is hosted by celebrities.

Not sure where you are getting your ratings info (I know, I know, the mighty Arbitron), but I seem to remember Indie getting better ratings than what you outline. I'm talking one year ago, two years...

There is only one source today for ratings in LA, and that is Arbitron.

In the last 6 months, Indie has had between a 0.3 and 0.5 share in 12+, and a 0.4 to 0.5 share in 25-54, the sales demos. It looks like they will end December (the survey month ended December 10) in the same range, likely on the low side.

Those are the only 6 months of PPM data we have. Comparing with old diary data is dangerous and like doing the proverbial apples and oranges thing. But, in 12+ in '06, they were between a 0.4 and 0.5 and mornings were between a 0.3 and 0.4.

So, given the methodology changes, there is not a significant difference. Indie was already well below the high point, when they were getting around a 1 share.

I guess they had no comeback. As much as I hate to admit it, it's game, set & match to David... as usual.
