well now that they cant go after the WWE they need something to go after

They remind me of PETA, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson....just looking to stir up s**t

I would agree with you all on that list except Sharpton. He seems to legit to me.

When do you hear or see Al Sharpton? When someone black is possibly done "wrong" in his mind

Look up Twana Brawley.

Sharpton's the same.

I'm very familiar with the situation, but he redeemed himself in my eyes when you was pointing out voter suppression efforts in a number of states such as deliberate cuts in early voting hours prior to the last election.

I've seen him in person numerous times last year when he was protesting cuts in early voting in Florida and Ohio. Oh yeah, I've seen him call out anyone including somebody black, so that I don't know what you are talking about when you say that...

Now that's obscene!

;D

CBS shouldn't be fined since this was very likely accidental, but they should be on a 7 second delay during the entire game to catch such slips. Actually isn't this something that could be automated?

It's already delayed two-three seconds based on natural digital delay. And there is the minority that loves to shut up the TV call and turn up their local radio announcers. Sounds like more of a problem with the production truck not catching everything; there was the 'GD' drop by a ref in Indy a couple months back on CBS, and a 'F-S' chain by a receiver for the Panthers who didn't get a pass interference call on Fox last month in the finale against the Saints, so obviously this year's network training in the off-season will focus on working the dump button.

Ha! Audio has never been a big priority in the TV business. You go on a video truck at a live event, and it's all about the pictures.

It happened after 10 PM anyway. I thought that was safe harbor?

10 Eastern, 9 Central, 8 Mountain, 7 Pacific, even earlier Alaska/Hawaii. Only one U.S. time zone was in the so-called "safe harbor."

I wish that the rest of the world were so keen as this forum is to what the PTC says and does. It never fails to leave me smiling, knowing that the PTC will always be relevant here.

The word is ****. Everyone has heard it. The world did not collapse under its weight. Its only a word. I would think these "religious" types would have more to worry about with all the starvation and poverty in the world than just the word ****. Its not using Gods name in vain. Its just a word. Now grow the **** up.

You really ought to read more. The only phoney bigger than Jesse Jackson is Sharpton.

According to the article PTC president Tim Winter said, “No one should be surprised that a jubilant quarterback might use profane language while celebrating a career-defining win, but that is precisely the reason why CBS should have taken precautions. Joe Flacco’s use of the f-word, while understandable, does not absolve CBS of its legal obligation to prevent profane language from being broadcast...".

Sorry to say but he does have a point. It is against current FCC regulations to broadcast that word. The PTC didn't make that rule, they are merely calling attention to the fact that the network failed to meet it's obligation to adhere to the FCC rules as they currently exist. Whether or not you agree with the rule, whether or not you agree with the PTC, whether or not you think having the f-word broadcast on TV is okay because everyone says it any way...those are not the issues.

The issue is, did CBS technically violate FCC policy as it exists today? And if so, should there be a penalty for that violation?

As I pointed out earlier in this thread, the FCC policy was thrown out by the courts. As far as I know, the FCC has done nothing to improve their rules. So they can try to apply them again, and risk the embarrassment of losing again in court.

I'm well read and informed from various perspectives, but thanks. Jesse Jackson is the only phony of those two. Sharpton is legit.

Just put the Superbowl, and all other sporting events, on a two-day delay basis. That way, we can bring in a few hundred linguists (at least one per known language and dialect) to thoroughly analyze all the dialogue, and grant their approval.

Or, move it to Pay TV, where the FCC rules don't seem to apply.

What's interesting to me are the basic cable "rules," which are informal and voluntary since these networks don't answer to the FCC.

You can say the "S" word, the "A" word, and show more skin than on broadcast networks, but the "F" word is still out, as is any real nudity. As we know, many of the basic cable nets are owned by the same corporations as the broadcast networks.

I think this proves that if you leave these networks alone and let them police themselves, they will be reasonably circumspect. You won't be hearing the "F" word other than accidentally on live broadcasts, and you won't be seeing sex and "depravity" on TV.

Perhaps the FCC should issue CBS a wrist-slap and admonish them to be more careful in the future, but that should be it.

It would only draw attention to the fact that the FCC has done nothing to address the issues as identified by the courts.

By the way, cable TV does in fact answer to the FCC in some ways. But the assumptions are different because people pay for cable, and there are parental controls.

Is it possible that the seven-second delay was a victim of the blackout? It could have been lost in all the confusion, or a technical issue could have prevented it from being re-implemented.

That's actually a pretty unique observation. By comparison, I heard Ray Lewis get dumped out of during a pregame pep talk before the game.
