Pulse 87 is now seeking financial support to stay alive!

Re: Pulse 87 has been given a reprieve!!!

Keep the donations and use it to offset debt and bring in more investments from companies from the outside.

the whole thing was a publicity stunt...
nice try...

I thought only 11 or 12 people listened to Pulse, what effect would a publicity stunt have on them? ::)

it was obviously a stunt designed to draw ateention from the masses..doesn't seem to be working...

You always have to find some negative spin to everything Pulse does. First it had "11 or 12" listeners, now suddenly it was merely just a "publicity stunt" (not sure how one could come to that conclusion considering that only Pulse listeners would have really known/cared about the "stunt").

Sometimes it's good to take off the hate-colored glasses.

Re: Pulse 87 has been given a reprieve!!!

lalumia, you've had nothing but negative garbage to spew towards anyone that enjoys pulse 87, let alone any fans of current dance. desperate pleas for financial assistance? yes. publicity stunt? not intentionally.

seriously, what gives? why are you the Debbie Downer of the NYC board [EDIT]

[EDIT-inflammatory]

Re: Pulse 87 has been given a reprieve!!!

Even if we take the "publicity stunt" angle...I think something like this could create positive returns for Pulse 87. Say x amount of listeners donated $xxxxxx amount of dollars in the short time that the fundraiser was on...what does that say about listener loyalty to the station? That's something advertisers would like to see. Kind of reminds me of the old WLIR, which was never really a runaway ratings success but survived for years and years due to incredible listener loyalty, which advertisers on that station recognized.

they were hoping the stunt would give birth to mainstream attention, and when it was over they might have 40 or 50 listeners instead.....
not gonna happen

Re: Pulse 87 has been given a reprieve!!!

it was a stunt, if it was real, they wouldn't walk away from it 2 days later..
it was designed to get newspapers, magazines, tv etc talking about the station and it's clearly not working, so, on to the next stunt...
try playing some actual hit records, that might help...

Where were you with this two days ago then, if it was so obvious?

750,000+ and growing seem to like the "non-hit records" they hear on that station.

Seconds on the haterade this morning?

750,000+ and counting.

last time I checked, this was a "New York" radio discussion board, not a rah rah Pulse cheerleader board;
if you can't handle other points of view, go start a cheerleader board somewhere else..

So you mean to tell me that C 89.5's pledge drive is also a stunt? I can fully understand your thoughts if this was done by a ClearChannel station. You gotta look back to what Pulse really is, behind the scenes of who owns them, how their promotions team operate, and know how much of coverage they provide. Even if this was a "stunt" do you realize how much support is there for Pulse? Do you know how many loyal listeners were there from day one of Pulse till today and wih newcomers listening as well? We are sorry to disappoint the haters that the Pulse did not stop. And Pulse IS broadcasting fronm NYC, so why can't Pulse be mentioned here since tis station is from New York?

NO FIGHTING HERE! If anything, this is a time for celebration! :)

Whether people want to perceive as what happened as a publicity stunt, the fact of the matter is that the dance music community pulled together! :) We got the word out, spread it around and people felt strongly about keeping Pulse on the air, especially in this rough economy. While this is a "reprieve", there is a BIGGER message here. What Monday proved was the fact that dance music fans were WILLING to put their money out to keep a beloved radio station on the air! It shows unity amongst us and I really hope this unity becomes more contagious in other cities as contemporary dance music can continue to spread!

This has certainly put dance music in the spotlight! I hope others are paying attention! :)

Thank you all!

This was most definitely not a stunt. The company was in serious debt and that could be seen on their income statement. I think the outpouring of donations proved to the advertisers and creditors that Pulse 87 is a solid product that will generate revenue. No one would donate to Z100 if they went under, they would just switch to NOW. At the moment Borasio announced the horrible news, I made a Facebook group to rally the listeners to donate, and I got more than 2500 people in one day just to join that group. That's 1/3% of the cume, and I am sure that the percentage of P1s is much higher than that. Many more than that must have donated. There were hundreds of listeners at midnight February 11th 2008 who were all clamoring for a current dance station. Unfortunately, I was not one of them because Pulse 87 was not streaming and my car radio antenna was frozen and wouldn't pick up any stations.

So I'm a Pulse 87 cheerleader now! 2-4-6-8-who do we appreciate? eighty-seven-seven-the pulse

This is all pretty sad. If indeed 2500 or more people donated money to a radio station it just goes to show where people's priorities are. How many of those people would have donated to cancer research or some other worthwhile cause, rather than nonsense like a radio station.

Sadly enough Nick, because I know you well... you'd probably look great in a cheerleader's uniform.
