They did, and it warranted (albeit briefly) a bailout by the listeners!

As for the David Guetta record it's already Top 30 nationally on CHR/Pop radio. For a record that world premiered in March, I'd say CHR reaction has been VERY fast. The fact that Z-100 started playing "When Love Takes Over" only 2 months after it was first heard anywhere is huge. Anyone remember how long it took for CHR radio to pick up on "Love Is Gone"? And that wasn't even a big radio hit here.

Whether we agree, disagree, hate, love, whatever ... be it dance, dance radio, opinion, disagreement or arguing, I want it stated personally that I have contacted Tony Santiago, and now here, to commend him, his passion, his tireless enthusiasm, his ability to think of all sides of an issue (and I admit, I don't all the time,) and is able to succinctly point a discussion into a path, stay on topic and get a true message out there than anyone I have ever known or met in my many yeas in radio.
For Tony, and his supportive following, be they right, wrong or indifferent, you have chosen as a leader, one of the most effective, caring, time giving, thoughtful people you could ever have on your side. Tony needs, in my opinion, despite the things going on with Pulse, to lead a strong following of Pulse fans, admirers and supporters right to the steps of the radio station and fill the sidewalk in a peaceful way to exhibit the care and support you have for Pulse directly to the owners, so they can see it and feel it.
I'd elect Tony to lead such a march whether it was to CBS, Emmis, Cumulus, Entercom, Citadel ... anywhere.
I've been in radio a long, long time ... and there are few communicators who can say it with conviction, state it with unbridled pride and cause action, not just reaction, than Tony.
I've got issues with a stock that is today at $.0085 and has asked its listeners to bail them out.
Mega Media owes each of you a lot. It's a business ... and without yours, there would be no Pulse 87 ... and without the voice of Tony Santiago, you wouldn't have a leader that I'd put in charge of a dance radio station in any size market ... today.
No matter what happens to Pulse, you'll not lose the leadership of Tony and the NY Dance Music Coalition. He's there for you and if broadcasters would only take the same dedication and comittment he has ... radio would be a lot better off.
Congratulations, Tony and his supporters. You're an amazing, loyal group that any radio station would give its heart for ... thanks to people like Tony. Thank you and best wishes.
Tony Santiago said:Granted, for those of us that are dance music fans, we are passionate. No crime in it. But sometimes that passion could get in the way in terms of looking at what is going on in the background. Sure, I was pushing for everyone to donate what they could to Pulse. But after the dust had cleared, more questions came to my mind than just saying "we did it". That's why on the other board, I had created an open letter to Pulse because while it was good that we showed support, the reality is....WE CANNOT DO THAT EVER AGAIN!
You can't continually ask listeners to pour in money like that. Then what happens when things are collected and Pulse gets in trouble AGAIN. I mean, we are not in this stable economy. We did our share and the station has been "spared" (I cannot say "saved"). I want Pulse to last but a lot of things have to be taken care of internally. And I hope this event serves as a "wake up call" for something to change somehow to get Pulse to stay afloat.
Back to CHRles...dance music in general IS picking up on CHR. For that matter, let's talk Kim Sozzi. Yes, "Feel Your Love" was heard on Pulse 87 last year. It finally branched to CHR! A lot of "urban" tracks are starting to have "beats" in them. Things are picking up despite all of these happenings.
Everyone here knows how much I LOVE this music and will continue to push positivity for it; it will end when I die. But I hope that this sort of thing NEVER happens again.
The Truth said:Tony love what your doing with the dance coalition. I highly reccomend you and Nick look into a Site dedicated to Streaming Dance music NON STOP. Break new artists...local guys...sell advertisers in with Display ads on the main site and filter in a few ideas here and there to keep it fresh. I think pulse should hold a HUGE concert with artists/labels they have relationships with who wont charge them an arm and a leg.
As far as the Radiothon goes. They miss-executed by a few things.
1 - Doing it out of nowhere...when you hear a jock on friday saying we have a major announcement..fans think contest or event..not bankruptcy..
2- Most Beg-A-Thons have Goals...
3 - No monetary value was being updated...at an hourly or timely rate...
and Nick - PBS "gets away" with telethons because they are not a commercial station
The Truth said:by the wording they used ("convential means of funding") I think they were told to cut the radiothon short because they are commercial and to just get more advertisers by the fcc...
TheBigA said:I think what was more likely is their own lawyers told them to stop because they weren't a non-profit. Plus they hadn't received all that much money in the first place. It wasn't gonna make much difference.
Tony Santiago said:I'm curious...do you know how much Pulse took in on this? I've been trying to get that answer! PM me here if you want.
No, I said they got 2500 members in the Save Pulse 87 Facebook group at the time the donation collection stoppedTheBigA said:Tony Santiago said:I'm curious...do you know how much Pulse took in on this? I've been trying to get that answer! PM me here if you want.
Didn't someone here say they got $25K from Facebook?
Hardrocker9 said:Not sure but in order to get more listeners, could pulse put in a contract to move to the empire state building? Since the DTV change over there is no 877 in philly and in providence. Just wondering
