Pulse 87 is now seeking financial support to stay alive!

main question here is if pulse 87 according to nick generates so much revenue how come Island Broadcasting hasnt been paid in months? what are these guys doing with the revenue....in my business plan Mandatory Business Fees/Liscensing Fees are paid first then payroll, then money back into the station, then money into my pocket....not the other way around...

Theres a big difference between fantasy & reality. Too many people live in fantasy land here! Much like nicks point in another post that said if they had expanded into the other markets they would of had the national accounts meanwhile they couldn't do it in their own market!

How much would it cost to buy 87.7?

If I had the capital, I would buy WNYZ and hire the same staff from Mega Media.

Nick,

I like you, I really do. But I feel this need to bring you "down to earth" here because I see a lot of what you post and just knowing what I do know, it's a lot more complicated than just saying having the capital to buy 87.7.

Personally, if I had the capital, I would NEVER buy 87.7 as a frequency. Some car stereos can't tune into it, the signal (which is FCC regulated and has nothing to do with Mega Media) is not strong and even if Pulse did expand to other markets as was planned, each market works on its own local scale. But to DeeJay, I have to point out....they DID land SoBe as an account in the very beginnings of the format.

Money spent on the Star & Buc Wild show? Let's stand corrected here. I would think, and this is just a hypothesis mind you, that landing Star & Buc Wild was on the "cheap". And to that, the Buc Wild portion wasn't even there....so it would be Star, White Trash Helene, DX21, Yonny and Pablo ...so in that sense, it was cheaper.

Nick, for your sake and I am telling you this as a friend, get off the Mega Media "bandwagon". I know you have invested in this. I ALMOST did but based on a couple of advisements, I didn't. It's not that I didn't believe in the dance format; far from it. It is simply a matter of finances and management and the stark reality is, Mega Media was going through issues even BEFORE the launch of Pulse. If Pulse did anything, it served as a "pail" that bailed out the water from the sinking ship. But the ship is still SINKING!

I am in TOTAL agreement with TheTruth that the dance music format is NOT the problem. Gets back to the "pail" example. It's just mismanagement, plain and simple. The only thing I can say WHEN the final dance track gets played on Pulse (not if), is that we (the coalition) would go back to square one to see what we can do to land another terrestrial station. However, one cannot deny the impact of streaming stations on the Internet so if we NEVER get another current based dance station again, it's not a major loss. I have my Internet streaming favorites. Once we have streaming car stereos as standard in autos...there you go! :)

Tony, With all due respect. The sobe example is just like saying that peoples donations (Save pulse) is the reason the station is still on the air. its not getting it done. Think back to the earlier Party 105 days when it was almost all dance. No Advertising! Not a knock at all to the music. ITs great music and i'm a big fan but its not a big money maker in radio here period.

When Party 105 was almost all dance, there was no Party 101.5. There also was no Pulse 87. It served Suffolk county and parts of southern Connecticut exclusively, not that appealing to advertisers based in NYC.

That being said, Pulse 87 has built up a successful brand. The new owners of 87.7 could build on the success by keeping the same brand and make it seem like nothing happened behind the scenes between August 31 and September 1. Maybe Vic Latino could buy 87.7 if that's what it takes to keep dance music on the air in NYC. I'm sure that the donations raised in the beg-a-thon could support a shell corporation when it leases 87.7.

I just don't want 87.7 to be sold out to an ethnic broadcaster to serve maybe 100 people with that huge signal, it would be wasted.

Who knows, maybe the creators of Streetz 96 and 87.9 might purchase 87.7 and call it Streetz 87, have it both on 87.7 and 87.9. Either way, as much as I want Pulse to stay, this will be a tough sell. As much as we would love to have dance music on the air, threr will be a slim chance someone may keep the brand. You know they gonna either create a format that already exists on the dial or make it another minority format. The politics in the back have never showed and given dance music its proper fair share and respect. FM is already dead, they should just close the lid on the casket. As of now, I have purchased Radiotime network and keeping my recordings of Pulse 87.

The only thing I was merely pointing out was that early on Pulse did get "national". That was the only time though but it just had to be noted for fact sake.

Internet radio is great and the Pandora (make your own station) idea is brilliant but I am of an age where I think there is nothing like local radio.
With so much syndication nowadays I suppose local radio is becoming a thing of the past even on fm.
Pulse is very much a local sounding station with it's great on air talent, music and delivery. Infact aside from WBLS it is probably the most local sounding commerical fm music station. Whether you like the format or not Pulse is an innovative "local" station and it will be sorely missed "if" gone.

Hey guys as far as Pulse getting any NATIONAL business. Its NEVER happened...they dont have any beer or liqour spots running besides the 3 olives thing which is based out of Manhasset,Long Island. They dont even have the Department of Health or New York State Lotto on there. Advertisers that SHOULD be on there. These phony updates from Mega Media saying they secured marketing orders from FUZE and other brands are completly false. They were just given cases to hand out at events. Has ANYONE heard a FUZE commercial or promo running on air? nope.

When Vic took over Party he didn't have 101.5 either. Its revenue was non existant. When he modified the format the advertisers came. It was that move that allowed him the ability to get 101.5. I appreciate your love of dance music but there are bills to pay and the dance format does not pay the bills.

The only way Vic buys Pulse is if it becomes a Party format. Are you ready to sacrafice that? He's been there before. Ask Kim, Reina, Lucas etc. what Vic's feeling on dance is. if not you better get your IPOD's loaded because the "all Dance" format days are numbered. Sad but true!

Not even, the Party format in NYC would be the same old music on the dial. Nobody is going to ditch 92.3, 97.1, 100.3, and 103.5 to move over to a limited signal that covers 40% of the NYC area known as 87.7.

yeah I agree, the dance is soo limited on party, I guess we'll have to go back to the original hot 97.com, maybe they could put this on an HD free channel.
