QUESTION: (attn: WVEE, WWWQ, WHTA, WWVA, and whoever else it may concern)

By the way, speaking of B98.5, I could easily join the other half of the crew here and talk about B98.5. HOWEVER, COINCIDENTALLY, I like rhythmic and top 40. Atlanta is lacking both. Which type of format do you think I'm going to speak out against first? And which town will I talk about it in? Of course the one(s) that suit me the most. ;) One thing at a time is how most people like it. This is not about changing a format. This is about IMPROVING YOUR OVERALL SOUND, LIVENING UP, & doing all the things people have been complaining about on a low key basis, hidden under various names, with no contact info. At least I'm talking and willing to present ideas... LET'S DO THIS.

Did it ever occur to you that there are lots and lots of people who just don't like that kind of music? Who the [EDIT] are you to try to "improve" the sound on the radio in my city by playing more of the music that I truly hate the sound of, and less of the music I like?

You like rhythmic and top 40? Fine. I don't. I hate those formats. I think they truly suck. I cannot bear to hear that crap, and will turn the radio off and enjoy silence before subjecting my ears to that crap. [EDIT]

Ahhhh.... now that explains everything.

Wheres GoodTimes&GreatOldies when you need him? Just playing. Come on guys. Let's play nice. I know some folks are more adament about radio than others, and that's ok. I think what KDM is getting at is that he's truly passionate about RADIO in GENERAL and he's excited to know about the radio dial in the ATL. He wants to know the digs of the dial before he gets into town from people who know the area well. Is it annoying? Yes, a little. But, aren't we all at times? KDM, I suggest listening to the stations online to get a good feel for them. Also, check the playlist from the stations at yes.com. Good luck buddy. Don't feel bad. When I was younger, I'm sure I irritated the hell out of people too. LoL. But from my experience with ATL radio, I suggest you check out 107.9, 103.3, and 105.7. As for the CHR sounds, Q100 does play mainstream CHR, but the only drawback most folks don't like is that their recurrents are gold based ROCK tracks. Take care radio lovers.

Ding ding ding ding ding!! We have ourselves a winner!!!! ;D

Just kidding. But first, I'm not feeling bad or good about anything. I'm just here posting and telling it like it is, using the basic english language and whatever other tools/fonts are conveniently available to get a point across. It's 100% up to the reader to decide in their mind(s) how they want to take or perceive it.

Secondly, the passion part is right on! However, the Atlanta dial is not exactly so new to me, and it is a few things that happened from the past through the present which makes me even more passionate about it. I wouldn't say I'm more passionate about it than everyone, but just that I speak out more about things (from politics to.... etc) in general. (You can consider me the talk radio of writing.) I've already been on and well aware of yes dot com and all that for a few years now, and and I'm no longer into 103.3 and 107.9 as much as I used to be 10 years ago.

What most people fail to understand is the main reason why I like rhythmic and rhythmic top 40. The main thing that got me in to that sound is the CLUB DANCE and ELECTRO hits that those formats normally feature during mixshow play (notice I'm not asking for a dance station though..!!) You also hit the Q100 thing perfectly as well, but I think Groove has a bright future, and maybe I should've just waited ONE more day before posting this because... well, once again, something I suggested, happened tonight during the first Friday night live club broadcast on Groove. They played straight up rhythmic club and electro dance style hits. As you can see, I don't make stuff up and say things for the hell of it. I normally know what I'm talking about before I present it, and it was only a FEW HOURS LATER that one idea I specifically recommended just happened to unfold for the first time on Groove tonight... IT CAN BE DONE.

ANYWAY, LETS WRAP THIS THREAD UP SINCE THERE IS NOW OFFICIALLY A STATION FOR THIS PARTICULAR SOUND (in addition to Saturday Night Q)! ;)
Those are my final thoughts regarding this thread, and... well, I'm done with it. |

ENJOY YOUR DAY FOLKS!

I mean, it's about time that someone dared to try something different...instead of just sticking with the same ol' same ol' formula and adding to the sea of sameness. After all, if no one wants to change anything or try something new, then how can anyone expect things to change?

See, THIS is why we need a 21st century WPA. Not only would it put people back to work, but it'd also cure some pathetically idle minds.

Your a good dude. At least Atlanta radio is more interesting than radio in Columbia, SC. No matter where you go in life, there will always be people that don't share the same ideas and sound as if they are against you. It makes for healthy discussion. But, the important thing to keep in mind, is that what YOU like is important. I like all styles of music from R&B, Rock, CHR, AAA, etc, but I get my fix from downloading the music I want. I have long stopped relying on local radio to fulfull that need. The only station really great in my market is sadly a low powered station serving up Alternative and AAA music (WXRY 99.3). While Atlanta has some problems on the radio dial, I do respect the market and like some of the stations. One guy on this post mentioned he HATES CHR/Rhythmic, and that's his perogotive. I can't stand a lot of the new country, but I respect those who listen to it. Well, enough of me on my soapbox. Good luck and keep us updated on your move to ATL. But, make sure to scope the market out fairly before making a final judgement.

Ok, I know I'm breaking my rule of being consistent and staying true to my word, but... I want to reply to the following message below, which I'll do now:

Thanks. I also like a variety of music, and after growing up with the sounds of Star*94 in the 90's, I do like everything from UB40 to Ace of Bace to Blues Traveler to Real McCoy (in addition to all the stuff I had to leave town to learn about). As a dj, I'm aware of downloading my own music or even internet radio...etc. However, there is just something about radio that all those other options don't have. Terrestrial radio has a certain vibe or feeling that no other form of media could fully duplicate. In addition to that subconscious connection you get when you know a bunch of people are also hearing exactly what you like with you, tie in the fact that I'm not only a radio fanatic with a fascination for radio, but there's also something about being able to get in your car or simply turn on your stereo and hear your favorite sounds. You can't get this same feeling through other sources of media out there. Unlike cable tv in comparison to regular tv, satellite and HD radio just don't fully compare to the regular dial in many ways. I will, though, listen to internet for electronic and club dance that mainstream radio doesn't have to offer. Not sure what 88.3 or 88.5 has to offer these days..

I also agree that Atl radio is not necessarily and literally all that bad. It's just different. Where most towns would have rhythmics and "rhythmic types of everything", Atlanta instead has urbans. However, outside of the urbans, mainly around the current and classic pop & light rock categories, you must admit things are a bit wacky when it comes to music formatting. But then again, some of this may be due to the fact that Atlanta has an unusually high number of urban sounds that non urbans are trying to stay away from....

So, when is an Atlanta station going to sart carrying heavy metal? I'm not just talking the old-school stuff, but the new metal that's hot in Europe. There's also no stations in town playing progressive rock, or symphonic rock.

The market's always had a hole for the black gay format.

Ok, I'm not too sure how genuine this question is, but before answering the question at hand, I must say this to anyone reading: Whenever people try to talk, mock, reply, gesture, rebuttal (and whatever else is possible that I left out) back to me, they need to 1st, THINK about what they are going to say, and 2ND, make sure it makes sense or at least looks like there was an attempt to be genuine, because if it is directed at me and it doesn't, I will ALWAYS come back and specifically point it out. I am a common sense type of person, and I guess you can just call it the talk radio side of me, but... I'm not too fond of things or weak excuses as an attempt to make a rebuttal or deny/"protest" against something else - especially if it looks as if the entire argument wasn't thought out BEFORE it was spoken. (Yes, there's talk in the Phoenix section about talk radio hosts being fake and don't really believe in what they are saying. Well... I wont argue with them. I'll just say that this doesn't apply to me. I KEEP IT REAL.)

HEAVY METAL & EUROPEAN ROCK:
Now with that being said, unlike CHR and RHYTHMIC, which are THRIVING NATIONWIDE right now, Heavy Metal is not the direction trends are currently heading in at the moment. As a matter of fact, there are even complaints on the boards about why (the "normal", of course) CHR's and charts are lacking a lot of alternative rock today. So, of course, Heavy Metal and European Rock, or any type of rock is not a priority in most markets at the moment (although it probably should be considered).

PROGRESSIVE & SYMPHONIC ROCK
Anyway, progressive and symphonic rock... maybe after B98.5, (which is seemingly #2 on the list after Q), that shall be the next topic. I'm not an expertise in that sound, so I'll leave it up to others to debate / push for that sound.

And what about Korean Music? Or Indian Music? We have a large number of Korean and Indian people in Atlanta now, shouldn't they get their music on a good FM stataion. And where are the polkas?

Even though Roddy obviously intended to give a sarcastic reply here, it should be noted House music was born in black-dominated Gay clubs. The Warehouse in Chicago, Paradise Garage in New York. Nufff said.
Even though Atlanta's got a sizeable Gay population, I think you're likely to find the majority of them listening to the same stations everyone else in town is tuning into.
