Anyone have the current scoop about Surf 94.9?? WNMB-AM Stereo 900 just signed a L.M.A. with Matt Smith from North Carolina? What about WVOC? WNMB-AM 900 Owner Bill Norman passed away last year of a stroke. His wife Susi Norman now owns 100 percent of WNMB and has just leased it out? How about the Surf 94.9? In 2011, Bill Norman parterned with North Myrtle Beach Bar/Hotel owner Harold Worley and Worley`s 3 kids in an ownership agreement. Bill moved the Surf 94.9 studios back into the wnmb building and got the station back on the air. However, I read that Bill also had a L.M.A. with the other WVOC owners on the Surf. What is the status now? Has The Surf Studios moved into the Spanish Gallion Nightclub like I have heard??? Is Ted Bell running the Surf??? Is Susi and Jenni Norman still involved with WVOC? Is Matt Smith involved? Thanks for any help with this!

WVOC is a news/talk station in Columbia. WVCO, however, is considered a legendary Myrtle Beach station and while I'm not one of them, I'm sure a lot of people do care about answers to these questions.

WVCO "The Surf" has moved to the "Galleon High Rise" overlooking the ocean. Norman's take wasn't much into that station as a minority owner. I was in North Myrtle Beach not too long ago and I rode by the WNMB station and saw a sign for lease or sale in front of the building. The building looked dark with no activity whatsoever and no vehicles were parked in the parking areas. WNMB is still on the air but Matt is probably programming it from North Carolina.

Re: Questions about WOVC-FM Surf 94.9- Still in WNMB-AM Stereo 900 building?

Thanks for the update on Surf 94.9. So, that sounds like they have indeed moved into the Spanish Gallion Nightclub building on the ocean that the Worleys own on the Horseshoe on O.D. in North Myrtle Beach. A fitting place for the Beach Music station since that is where Carolina Beach Music began. I do know that Bill Norman was a minority owner with Harold Worley and his three kids having more shares. Bill Norman DID do alot to get the Surf 94.9 back on the air in Spring 2011 after it had been taken off the air after former WOVC_fm owner Harvey Graham died and the station was caught up in some type of Condo development lawsuit. WNMB`s Bill Norman came in, got the Worleys to invest and got The Surf back on the air. Bill also legally forgave about $10,000 of debt that formaer Surf 94.9 owner Harvey Graham and the surf had for upaid rent at WNMB studios. It is sad that Bill passed away. WNMB-AM Stereo 900 is still in good hands and still sounds great! I have been told that Susi Norman WILL NOT sell the station or change the format from Oldies. Family friend Matt Smith has signed a longterm L.M.A. with WNMB and I understand that he will soon be putting a General Manager down at WNMB to run it while still playing the great Oldies. By the way, Bill Norman DID have a L.M.A. and control of Surf 94.9 with the majority owners. It took affect in March 2011. I hear that it was for 2 years and must have just ran out. I guess

By the way, I have also just learned that only the "new" addition to the WNMB-Am, studios (that was built in 1983) is for lease. Bill Norman had moved WNMB back into the original 1972 part and upgraded it about 3 years ago. The other large part has some large garage doors. Bill Norman proudly had about 12 classic 1960`s mustangs and several Thunderbirds inside the "new addition" part!! He also had alot of retro drink soda machines, juke boxes, etc. I guess that they are still there. However, Susi must plan to rent out that part. However, WNMB will remain in the other original part. Remember, that is a HUGE building! Bill Norman had his own personal retro playhouse in that other part!-LOL. So sad that he passed away. I guess that Susi Norman is too sad to be in there around it. It was VERY unique!
