R.I.P. - Former News Anchor Gaylen Young Dies In Car Accident

Learned of this tragic news via a breaking news alert during the 10P edition of Eyewitness News on KBFX Fox58 last night. News anchor Kurt Rivera (who at one time worked as a colleague w/ Mr. Young at KGET-TV in Bakersfield, CA) broke the story, citing source KSL-TV, which was another station Young reported for early in his career. Gaylen Young reported and anchored at numerous Southern California outlets, including KTTV-11 Los Angeles, SNC (Satellite News Channel), and over 20 years w/ KGET in Bakersfield. Since leaving KGET a few years back, Young most recently wrote features for The Bakersfield Californian newspaper and its sister publications, appeared on local radio, and also did ocassional tv commercial endorsements. He will be missed by many and fondly remembered.

Aww, that's too bad. He used to shop at an Albertson's my friend used to bag groceries for back in the mid 80's. Really nice guy. As far as anchors go I'd put Gaylen up along with Rusty Shoop and the late Burleigh Smith as local legends.
