Radio 94.7 is the Worst Alternative Rock Station in America

This used to be my favorite radio station for a few years as it used to play a lot of great indie music. One of my favorite bands that they played was like Arcade Fire, Passion Pit, Broken Bells and even Blondfire. They even played old stuff like Joy Division, The Clash and even The Cure. Now they no longer play a lot of the new stuff and they also started playing crappy bands like Nickelback (which I don't like at all). I lost all hope for this station and now I hate this station because they now play Nickelback.

Why is Radio 94.7 playing Nickelback?

Ok so I don't really hate this station but I wish that they should just stop playing Nickelback on their regular rotation. Radio 94.7 is what brought me back to listening to alternative rock again. But if they continue to play Nickelback then I might as well start listening to a different station or start investing on a satellite radio.

I listen to 94.7 quite often and rarely, if ever, do I hear them play Nickelback. I will, however say I'm bummed they discontinued the "Perfect Playlist" feature. It was great to hear picks from other listeners on my ride home.

All in all, I would say 94.7 is still one of the better sounding Alternative stations out there.

I haven't heard Nickelback, but I was souring on their reduced airplay for current/new-ish songs. They also seemed to be dragging out way too many mainstream hits from the 90s -- Red Hot Chili Peppers <gag> and Greenday being the major culprits.

This station is a joke- heard it was sort of Entercom's apology for changing KWOD, but they're making the same mistakes that station did and then some. Seems that Nirvana is now the new Doors, being played ad nauseum- I bought their album when it came out, still like it but it's been played to death on the radio, if I want to hear that I'll just play the CD but on the radio I want to hear stuff I haven't heard before. It's also stupid in this day and age to have an automated station with no DJs- there's tons of choices on the internet for that.

Trust me, it's not the WORST Alt Rock station in country...but it's far from best as well. I was in the loop so I have some personal perspective. Besides, that term "Alternative" means very little now anyway. Most new "Indie" (for lack of a better descriptive word) bands sound more like Devo, or Joy Division....or folk singer/songwriter type bands, NOT power chord churning flannel shirt wearing Seattle bands. It's just that no one wants to "label" their station and "INDIE" Rock station ("Why" escapes me. Probably because THEY...the industry didn't CREATE the genre....the internet exposure of the bands did!). Which is why Radio 94.7 is simply imaged as "Radio 947" with NO other description of music content in the positioning statement.

It's not Entercom's "apology" for ending KWOD either. There were some in programming in the company that NEVER wanted KWOD in the cluster in the first place! But, like all egomaniac corporate programmers, THEY wanted to say THEY created the station/format for the market. PPM played a big part of that timing too (that's why there's no more KSSJ even though it did great numbers, the demo was all 50+).

Besides, we can all stream whatever we want to the palm of our hands now. It's not like the local choices matter all that much anymore anyway. My 2 cents.
