Is that the company that sells year contract ads for your station, like safety campaigns - and gives the customer a clock and/or a radio with your call letters?

If so, we had great success.

Paris.. Not to be too nosey.. Did they pay what they promised and what market and size station did you have??????

We owned a group of small market stations in the late 70s til '85 when we sold it all.

We limited the geography the agency covered to a bit away from the central coverage area. We found places 10 years later still with the radio they used in the promotion

They did what they promised. They sent a group of salespeople to this market and really SOLD at an inflated rate, We got LOTS of business - revenue from 100 places that never advertised before. Few complaints. A few longer term clients resulted from their original promotion.

A few years after this promotion we improved on their idea, (did it ourselves) opening our own 1 woman straight commission phone sales department, (ala Moberly, Missouri....use Google) selling sports boosters, etc. at a BARGAIN rate, and "cut out the middleman."

Regular easy, great revenue. Everybody was smiling.

Paris.. Thank you.. My only concern was cutting the potiential with my solo sales guy on independent contractor status and one other person selling.. We are moving to sports/local sports/local talk and I thought this might be a great help in giving me a breather.. I am having software problems (main stress) with Simian.. And I will be deciding on what net to go with this week or next.. Trying to get all tech together by Jan. 1st... This would, at the rate they propose garner 25 to 50% of our monthly needs (including my sales guy and my living expenses).... A great start on a station in the second month of stunting music, at this point... I thank you again.... Great feedback and gives me more confident decision.. "Skip"

Skip,

A station I was managing a number of years ago started using them in 1998. The station always got paid and had very few complaints.

One thing you can do is give them a list of your station's "in house accounts" and they won't touch them.
Like Prais mentioned, they managed to get some businesses on the air that had never advertised before.

(I never could figure out why the businesses chose to pay the higher rate over the lower station rates.)

Nevertheless, in 2004 that station was still getting spots and revenue from the deal we struck back around 1998!

Allan said, "I never could figure out why the businesses chose to pay the higher rate over the lower station rates."

Here's why; These folks are SALESPEOPLE.

They eat it, breathe it, and deficate it. SALES.

That's certainly why. I also (later) tried to hire a guy away from them with a HUGE commission - but he wouldn't bite. Sigh! Those guys must get paid what they are worth!

PS My (brilliant) accountant had me pay our salespeople 30% commission... and the station STILL made LOTS of good money - and we had VERY happy salesfolks. I would do that again!!

You two are making me feel better..... I give them a list and I AM paying my Sales Manager is making 30%... And with a state program I can get some interns to train (they get paid by the state fund) and then we see if they can handle independent contract sales)....
