Radio Enciclopedia Cuba heard in the Mojave Desert on Global Tuners (video)

I was really surprised to hear this and with a steady signal too.

What I did was get the video of my computer on the Mojave Desert on Global Tuners receiver and then went to the other room and turned on my PR-D5 to show that it was the same station which is easily heard here in Tampa day and night.

Nicely done, gar! Congratulations. Shows what a medium-high powered signal (assume 10kw) can do on a reasonably empty channel. IIRC from other threads, R. Enciclopedia has turned up in Hawaii and on the Northern Ireland Global Tuners receiver.

Here where I've been near Pensacola, it's 24/7, but at night I've been hearing what seems to be Spanish underneath. I believe the Cubans have installed a lower-powered R. Rebelde repeater on the channel, and that might be what I'm hearing.

^ Yes, Rebelde. There are reports of the Enciclo to be 50 kW. At times, Enciclo is off the air, leaving only Rebelde.

Nobody seems to know where the newer 530 Rebelde is....those that report Guantanamo, well, that has to be an existing Rebelde prior to the one that started up about a year ago. My Select-a-Tenna beaming toward Havana gets Enciclo & Rebelde underneath; when pointed to Gitmo, nothing there for me.

I wonder if Enciclo is somewhere between 10 and 50kw. The day signal here (Pensacola area) seems somewhat weaker than 640 and 670. It also seemed a little weaker than 640 and 670 last month in and around St. Pete.

But that said, the mounting body of evidence is that this station really kicks butt for 10kw. It sounds fantastic on the really good radio in the car I'm driving.

I never would have guessed they are only 10 kw.

That other Cuban station on 530 is often as strong as Radio Enciclopedia here at night and I even heard that one briefly in the background of Radio Enciclopedia on the Mojave desert receiver last night.

I also heard WWL for a bit when the other stations on 870 were weak but that was not the first time.

On 1530, I'm almost certain I had WCKY behind KFBK, as I had WCKY on my radio here in Tampa and was comparing the sound.

Now I'm thinking that maybe I should try for KFBK in Tampa instead of KCBS because there are not so many stations in the way. When WCKY is in a fade cycle, I have heard another station but they never gave an ID.

It was not KFBK because it didn't match the online stream at all and it was a different program. I can't figure out what station that was. But there sometimes is another station way in the background too.

Gar - Try 670, 710, and 1180 next time! You may be able to match 5.025 khz to all three stations (Radio Rebelde). I've heard the 670 and 1180 from Washington state, and 670, 710 and 1180 from Ridgecrest. Check it out!
