Radio Margaritaville vis-a-vis Vacation (and a possible Sirius channel-lineup-change trend)
(Note: I hope no one minds me cross-posting this from the XM board. In this post, I was replying to a post on that board, but as I prepared to post it, the thought occurred to me that this post would also be appropriate here on the Sirius board. So here it is.)

While I suspect Sirius thought Radio Margaritaville would replace Vacation, the two are different (to my ears, at least).
I'd like to add that both streams were/are in the second or third tier of streams I like but don't always get to because there's so much else on that's worth listening to.
When I have tuned in to Radio Margaritaville, though, my impression has been that of a station format similar to AAA, albeit with an understandable (and welcome) Jimmy Buffett fixation -- at least when it's not replaying actual Buffett concerts.
Vacation, I seem to recall, played lots more calypso, Hawaiian and the like. I also suspect it played less Jimmy Buffett.
This actually points to a possible trend I've noticed, in which Sirius replaces one stream with another that's different, but (Sirius presumably hopes) not so radically different that many people notice or care enough to complain about (or something like that).
Last autumn, Sirius dropped Folk Town and added Coffee House. (The two are not the same, however.)
And a couple of years ago Sirius dropped a new age stream and added the Chill electronic channel. (It's since started up another new age stream, Spa 73, but thankfully has not deleted Chill. No such luck with Folk Town or Vacation; maybe Sirius will bring back the formats sometime, though, as it did with new age. As the old saying goes, "Hope springs eternal.")
(By the way, I intend this post to go specifically on the XM board, as I am replying to an XM board post. That said, I'd like to cross-post this to the Sirius board, as it is obviously relevant there as well.)
