Came accross www.radiomaria.us and their home page indicates a new station starting up soon in Anna,OH(between Sidney and Wapakoneta)a farm commnunity south of Lima at 88.7 FM. Not on the air yet and the website gives no info on a target airdate as of yet or what the call letters will be. The station will air Catholic programming from its home base in Louisiana .

Yes,your right...Lots of Catholics in that area...and even more who have fallen away from the faith. Preist and nun shortage getting worse too.
Thanks for the replies..WHJM finally hit the airwaves today..supposedly they already first signed-on in June and was operating before a lightning strike knoked it off the air according to my fellow church freinds in my cursillo group. They are a repeater of Alexandria,Louisiana station KJMJ where its studios are located and have several other repeaters on both AM and FM in LA and TX.

They are a great bunch of people in Alexandria-- I know them well. The studios are adjacent to KALB-TV channel 5; in fact the studios are those of the old KALB radio, the prestige station in central Louisiana. Years ago the AM was sold off and bought by a group that ran black gospel in several Louisiana and southeast Texas cities, including Houston. For some reason, they went out of business and Radio Maria bought the stations, except for KYOK Houston, which became Radio Disney. I suspect RM regrets to this day that they did not buy KYOK, because they want to get into Houston, even more so since Houston lost its Catholic station (and EWTN affiliate), KGBC, when the owner upped the power and upped the rent.

There is no RM broadcast station in Houston, although RM Houston operates over the KPFT subcarrier, and is strictly Spanish 24/7, allied with Radio Maria Nueva York (also a subcarrier station). Both rebroadcast several Latin American Radio María stations, particularly over the weekend.

RM also owns a CP for Altoona (Holidaysburg), which should put a fine signal over Johnstown, too, and perhaps a usable signal for better radios in State College.

One of the things I like about Radio Maria is that all its stations studiously avoid politics, something that can't be said about a lot of religious stations. I do not mean that they do not speak out on moral issues, but they do so from a theological point of view, not a political one. Nor do they broadcast rant, so common on other religious stations. I have listened on and off for years and have never heard them villify anyone.

I thought I had an eSkip opening for a minute yesterday with all the mentions of Louisiana and Texas stations but it was Radio Maria in Anna, tropo-ing its way to Fairborn.

Back in June I received an e-mail from a lady who is one of the key representatives of WHJM, and she told me that the station could be picked up in parts of Dayton, which I find amazing. Can anyone confirm this? Isn't Fairborn near Dayton?

It's interesting, WHJM used to be the calls of a hip-hop/rap FM staton in Southeastern Connecticut.

WHJM's signal is 1,000 watts transmitting from Botkins...the old AT&T relay tower with a "For Rent" sign posted out front since the microwave antennas have been removed. It may start to fade heading towards Dayton and north of Beaverdam. So if you pick it up in the Dayton area,it may be northern Mongomery/western Clark/northwest Greene counties...or it may have been the right atmospheric conditions early in the morning...Another plus may be the Botkins tower being 318 feet HAAT according to www.radio-locator.com ....and yes it was the call sign of an urban/hip hop station since the radio-locator page has a few errors on it including the link to the website of the hip hop station,no coverage area map and the tech info box which still reads "Currently Off The Air."

More info on WHJM. A local newspaper reports that a group from Radio Maria's home base in Italy plan to visit the area and make stops at the transmitter site in Botkins (after a visit in nearby Minster and Maria Stein) followed by a stop at the St. Charles Center(former seminary site) in Carthagena,Ohio(south of Celina on U.S. Route 128) for a public information session Monday August 27,2006 at 4pm eastern time
