Radio Now 97.9 Jacksonville - Adult CHR

As expected, 97.9 Kiss FM Jacksonville has rebranded, and is now known as Radio Now 97.9
What's perhaps unexpected is the shift in music - the station is now clearly much more of an Adult leaning CHR. In fact, the first record it played once it launched was 3 Doors Down "Kryptonite", a hit from 2000! Not exactly what I'd call now...
Also played in the first half hour was Sublime's "Santeria", Panic! At The Disco "I Write Sins Not Tragedy", and Black Eyed Peas "Where Is The Love".

I don't mean to be rude, but WTF??? I mean seriously, you rebrand a station, call it Radio Now, yet you play a lot of Recurrents and Gold, all in the first half hour.
A better name would perhaps be Radio Then.

Epic Fail.

^Yeah it's definitely adult-leaning CHR - on yes.com they're going by "Your Music Your Station" though - seems like a much better tagline than "Radio Now"

Honestly, I like the playlist. A smidge on the conservative side, but given WAPE's current musical lean and FKS' struggles with a younger-skewing CHR format, I think it's a smart move on CC's fault. Granted, they are missing just enough songs to be considered a true Mainstream CHR, but I hope this works and proves that you don't have to completely shed all of your HAC/rock material to be successful.

It's not far off from what Q102/Cincinnati, Mix/Baltimore and Q104/Cleveland are doing, which does make me wonder if WFKS will get shifted to the HAC panel eventually. As for the Radio Now moniker...don't get caught up in names. Just because NOW has hyper-current, rhythmic connotations to us means absolutely nothing to the average Jacksonville listener.

Could not agree more. Some have noted on their facebook "NOW? That song (whatever it may be) came out like a year ago" to which they reply "Yes, but it's the first time it's been played on Jacksonville radio. It's a hit... played... NOW"

I get it. Good luck to them.

Admittedly, the music mix is much better now on the new Radio Now 97.9. It's still adult friendly, but much more Current oriented.
