Radio Station To Debut Worlds First Artificial Intelligent Radio Personality

that is big.it also is so wrong.

what is needed is a return to PEOPLE on the air not another way to get rid of more people.

just because something can be done does not mean it should be done.

Looking sample videos from their website, it seems to me the voice is still too impersonal/robotic to replace even a VT. Once the program can sound like Rick Dees, Casey Kasem, etc, then DJs from around the world can begin to panic.

Thank you for reading everyone. I want to be very clear that voice skins may be purchased to change the voice of Denise. Male voices included.

Remember she was not designed to do this, I took what she could do and applied it to radio.

I can respect and understand where you are coming from. However I did not invent automation. This is just simply a new method of accomplishing it. Thanks for reading.

This is big! What do you guys think?

From looking at their website, she's certainly much better looking than Max Headroom! ;D

You expect a voice like that to get buy in radio, especially when acting like a human? It's obviously fake, and people would probably laugh more than anything.

If you are pessimistic about the concept that is perfect okay, you are certainly entitled to your own opinion. However, you mentioned her voice. You are referring to Android Angel which can be found on the www.guile3d.com web page. Denise sounds a tad different. Also I have made it clear that voice skins can be purchased to change the voice to sound a little less robotic. That also includes male voices. I fully acknowledge that this might upset a lot of on air personalities. That was not my intention. This is a different method of automation. It can literally save radio companies millions which in a way forces them to at least entertain the idea. Who knows, maybe some will laugh. However I assure you that this is innovative and it will spark the interest of people. I fully expected a lot of hate and also a lot of love from this. Thank you for reading Kevan.

Denise sounds wooden and robotic (no pun intended.) A voice command triggers a programmed response. Big Deal. My Windows XP does that.

To me one thing that stood out in the article wasn't how this would enhance the product in any way, but it would be a great way to get rid of a human who was costing too much.

But hey, why use somebody with talent, when you can hire someone at minimum wage part time to read into the computer? And isn't that really what radio is all about now? Lets cut cost, who cares about the quality of what we produce.

I'm sorry, I just fail to understand how the robot'll do it. How will it answer the phone and take requests? How will it give out prizes/announce the winners over the air? And what if someone calls with a strange question, E.G.: What song was that you played at 2:35 PM?" Will it be able to answer?

Thanks!

Computers can do voice recognition and respond as programmed. But what if you have sarcasm in your voice? A person would know it. A computer wouldn't.

You fail to understand the concept. This works much like a voice tracked airshift. Do you think that there are live jocks on every station? Absolutely not. Stations all over have prerecorded airshifts. To answer your question on if she could take calls the answer would be yes. A phone module can be implemented in her setup. However since her airshifts would be produced it would serve little purpose in that situation. It can however be useful as to say being used as a receptionist. Precorded interactions with listeners could be done and inserted into the hour. (Exactly like a human jock would do it) Before you reply you need to understand that voice tracked airshifts are a well practiced standard. Stations from all around the world use this method. =)

You're right. I am not arguing with that.

CTHank nails it. This product makes radio cheaper, not better. Less, not more. Does NOTHING but potentially further eliminate local jobs.

Way to go Dominique! Amazing that you crow on your blog about how great it is that radio would embrace local music, and then turn around and push this. Is Denise going to bring the band on and buy me a beer at the bar? The "millions" in corporate savings you celebrate will come out of the pockets of people JUST LIKE YOU trying to support themselves and their families in radio (and it will take a LOT of those salaries to add up to millions).

Since you're such a huge fan, maybe the boss will let you stay around and babysit the computer...for a little while anyway.
