Radio stations from Boston and Providence areas DXed regularly nationwide

Aside from WBZ.....

Here in south FL, back in the 1970s, after seriously DXn AM for over 1 year, I got a QSL card from WMEX 1510 (on 5kw night power), although I never heard call letters...I only gave a report! That shouldn't count.

Also I *may* have heard WRKO 680 on a night when WPTF signed off, but again no proof.

In the early 80s when 1510 upped power and was WMRE, I did hear it from here, possibly when WLAC was still on.

In the mid 80s when the Cuban on 590 wasn't on, I did hear WEEI, possibly on day pattern (but cannot remember the month).

On my 2005 Bermuda trip, WRKO and WPRO 630 eked a signal in the daytime. No sign of WEEI 850. At night, I believe WWZN was pretty clear & I heard WHJJ 920 as well IIRC.

Was in Newfoundland in 1999, and WWZN seemed to dominate IIRC, as it should!

I did err on one thing, I have heard WTIC in the Chicago area so that makes two New England stations that I've heard here.

OK. WBZ had Bruce Bradley, who in my opinion was one of the five best nightime disc jockeys of the early/mid 60's AM top 40 era. My dad traveled throughout the U.S. & Canada and used to take me with him during my summer vacations, so I heard a lot of great disc jockeys.

Biondi does indeed sound terrific and on May 2nd he will be celebrating 50 years since he started in Chicago radio.
WLS-AM began their Top 40 format on May 2, 1960 and Dick Biondi was their night jock.

Years ago (and it was years ago) I would listen to Arnie "Woo Woo" Ginsberg on WMEX 1510 from near Rochester, NY. That end of the dial had WMEX, WKBW & WPTR all playing great music.

That's because Fridays are when he has his all request show which tends to feature a number of 'forgotten' hits and which tosses the playlist aside for a while. So, tonight is a good night to catch him - if you're interested.

Got to agree with you regarding Bruce Bradley--he was vastly underrated.

+1. Most nighttime top 40 jocks tended to be screamers to one degree or another, but Bradley was smooth, witty, and almost cerebral. His live beach broadcasts (Cohasset?) were classic. You could be sitting in landlocked Illinois and still picture yourself surfisde!

Also loved those classic WBZ "finger snap" jingles, news sounder, etc. etc. I always wanted to see Westinghouse install the format on WIND here, but they already had a good thing going with that!

Here (Charleston, SC), the only Boston station we get usually is WBZ, which comes in well many nights, sometimes clear. WTIC comes in sometimes, but it is often overpowered (by Louisville and KRLD), and when it does come in, it is weak.

WRKO is overpowered by WPTF (one of the strongest clears here), and 1510 is WLAC, one of the strongest clears.
