Rainbow Communications Ends TV Service to Focuses on Streaming As Cord Cutting Grow

https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/kansas-internet-cable-provider-ends-tv-service-focuses-on-streaming/
Rainbow Communications to focus on the streaming and ending Cable TV service on June 30th, 2020

Rainbow Communications, a telecommunications service provider offering cable and internet services in Northeast Kansas, has announced that they will end TV service on June 30, 2020, and help customers switch to streaming.

In a letter to customers, Rainbow Communications noted that 80% of their customers’ internet traffic comes from watching video online. In an effort to provide quality service and meet customer needs, the company has decided to focus on delivering the “best internet experience possible” while ending TV service.

“You’ve probably heard about streaming TV,” the letter says. “Streaming is watching TV over your internet connection, and now with new applications, you can stream shows on television sets. While Rainbow will not be your TV provider moving forward, your new digital picture and sound can be delivered over our Rainbow internet service. When you combine our high-speed internet with HD-picture, the clarity will surprise you.”

I understand why they don't want to continue bearing the overhead of running a TV operation.
But why not co-brand with a streaming service, offer it to their customers and and take a piece of the revenue from that?
Seems like they are walking away and leaving money on the table.

DIRECTV and Dish will be HAPPY to take the customers who are pi$$ed off about losing TV service. Senior citizens especially.

Su-u-u-ure they will. At 3 or 4 times the cost of streaming services. Don't believe the hype from ripoff artists that run off soon-to-be-obsolete technology.

I just dumped DirecTV last week because they were too expensive (over $200 a month, not including sports packages). $75 was for equipment rental alone (main receiver + 4 remote boxes, only 3 of which were usable at any one time). I spent that on three Roku boxes from Amazon, signed up for YouTube TV ($53/month, including most locals), and immediately started saving money. I don't do Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, or the others of that type, but there is plenty of entertainment available on Roku for free. The only services I pay for are MLB.TV and NHL Center Ice, both separate from YTTV, and the only one I lost (for now) is NFL Sunday Ticket.

Here's a little warning from one ex-DirecTV customer to another.

Watch carefully for attempts to keep billing you, even though you've canceled the service and returned
the receivers. They did this to me, and it took me several months to get them to stop.

Thankfully I never signed up for auto pay. They likely would have gone on taking money out of my account.
Due to fears they were doing this to others I reported them to the state attorney general's office.

I just got my final bill. It was $0.00. They still haven't sent me instructions for how to send the equipment back.
