Ralph Price, Savannah Radio & TV veteran, dead at 82

I worked with Ralph at WSAV in the mid 70's. At that time, since I worked the Saturday shift on radio, I was given the opportunity to do TV Sports at 6PM. I think I got an extra $5 for that. Ralph was the anchor for that newscast, and Joe Cox was doing his Captain Sandy weather. One funny time I remember was a fly in the studio landed on my shoulder, I was reading copy over B Roll and Ralph hit it with a newspaper, which made a pretty loud sound. I was easy to break up and it was all over then. Ralph is one of those good people I remember in the business. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

I never had the pleasure of knowing him, but Ralph Price is one of the people who influenced me to try to get into broadcasting. Even today, something like 40 years later, whenever I hear the opening notes of the second movement of Beethoven's Symphony #9, I think of Ralph Price as moderator of WSAV's Candid Opinion: "... The questions asked during this program are intended to elicit information, and do not reflect the opinions of WSAV, its staff or sponsors. ..." How many news operations today can make that statement with a straight face? I can remember Mr. Price as clearly as if he were just on the screen. Let's see ... Who is WSAV's current anchor? I honestly can't tell you; today, anchors are interchangeable and forgettable. Find Peace, Mr. Price.
