One news story from early this week involved the resignation of Randy "Duke" Cunningham, a former Republican member of the U.S. House from the San Diego, Calif., area, who has been accused of corruption.
Sirius OutQ, the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender stream, deserves kudos IMHO for reminding us listeners about an interesting aspect of this case.
Just after 2 PM EST one afternoon, I heard outspoken firebrand Michelangelo Signorile (think of a gay, liberal Rush Limbaugh and you might get an idea of what he's like) come on and happily blast Cunningham for hypocritically, in his opinion, supporting a ban on gay marriage whilst engaging in financial corruption.
Say what you will about Signorile's politics. (I know there are participants on this board who are not liberal and will disagree with Signorile.)
Biased though Signorile is (But does he HAVE to be objective? I think not, given that he is a talk show host, not a news reporter; by the way, I don't necessarily agree with Rush Limbaugh's politics, but I respect and admire his success as a talk show host), this was an example of good radio in my book.
It exposed one aspect of a news story that otherwise probably would have escaped my attention. And it was entertaining as well. (Never mind that I tuned out after a few minutes, as I had other business to attend to that took me away from the radio.)
Good stuff.
