Rashan Ali, fomerly of WHTA, joins WVEE for afternoons

http://www.v103webmag.com/entertainment/v103-welcomes-rashan-ali/1051/

As of Friday @ 4PM, Rashan Ali, formerly of the "A-Team Morning Show" on WHTA joins WVEE for weekdays 2-6PM along side Ryan Cameron. It looks like WVEE PD/VP of Urban Programming of CBS Reggie Rouse and Atlanta cluster OM Rick Cafferty is comprising the line-up for whenever Frank Ski and Wanda Smith leaves mornings (which could be later on this year unless Frank Ski extends his contract for another year). The question is who will replace Ryan Cameron in the afternoons? Osei???

Osei sucks big time! You forgot he did middays and flopped! Middays with Elle and Greg Street are the only 2 shows I can't stand. Ramona Dabruex in middays and Lil Bankhead at night would win me over. However, V-103 still isn't my favorite ATL station though. I'm still rolling with HOT 107.9, but they are starting to fail me.

Although Elle wasn't my first choice for middays, she has grown on me. I enjoy the fact that ol' girl plays plenty of old school jams in the middays with the new stuff (something I used to love about the old 'PGC). On Greg Street, you can take it or leave it. I listen for the new music and the DJ Infamous' mix @ 9 and ignore the rest. But the question is who will take over afternoons once Ryan Cameron migrates to mornings? I mean Osei used to hold down afternoons in DC successfully at WKYS. From what I heard, the reason why Osei left middays wasn't because of ratings rather a lawsuit claiming gender discrimination so they brought back Porsche Foxx to fulfill the gender quota...

V-103 seems to be breaking more new music (hip-hop & R&B songs like the new T.I. song featuring Will.I.Am & Fergie and new Kem song) than practically any urban in the nation these days and they are very personality-driven, so they have won me over hands down. IMHO, KMEL in SF Bay Area is the only other urban station that can compete with them these days.

Everything you say about Atlanta radio I feel the same way about lol
I've always like 107.9 better it just feels better listening to it, I've always disliked V-103 because it's boring listening to it... It's like I'm listening the a station in Dothan, Alabama or Columbus, GA lol and they're website is confusing and the logo is so boring and just generic... It's just a generic station to me... But I must say I love Rashan and I've been listening online and they aren't really that bad at night with their Slow Jams show... And yes Hot107.9 isn't what it was a few years ago.. Ever since A-Team left they lost their umphhh

V-103 has had the same logo for the past 20 years and is the most recognizable moniker of all the urban stations in the market, so if ain't broke then don't change it. Have you been to their new template by WordPress on their site recently? It's way easier site to navigate now than it used to be...

Remember V103 is the big station, they've always been on top, and now with this addition they are doing great! I'm sure Ryan took a hit in pay when he got hired by V103 but I wonder what his salary is now compared to when he did mornings on WHTA.

Much like WGCI if you're on top you maintain. The moment you take apart the dream team, everything falls. When WGCI dropped their morning show for Steve Harvey, they fell from 1st to 18th. One year after that they went local again and been taking over. People screamed, including me when WHTA let Ryan go. They said WHTA will never recover. It took some time, but many still liked the ATeam over V103 mornings.

The sad thing is WHTA was the Hip Hop station on 97-5 and they programmed it RIGHT before Radio1 became too big. Once Rickey Smiley was put on 107-9, that started the downfall. And its sad, but I'm very confused why KBXX is still local in the mornings in Houston but they decided to kill off the ATeam in ATL??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? The Box KBXX still has the Mad Hatta? That's the WTF question.

I say good for HER!! V103 is building a great team that will DOMINATE. They know what they are doing.

Well, KBXX is the only show in town and its a major market with a signature morning show since the mid-1990s. Radio One could just do nothing with both KBXX and KMJQ and they would still win because there isn't any direct competition. Strange considering CBS has a plethora of stations in Houston like ATL and DC markets, but never considered flipping one back in the early 2000s when the timing was right for urban music to compete against Radio One there as well. It could have easily done the thing WVEE or WPGC prior to its screw ups did and gave Radio One a run for its money.

I believe Ryan got more money when he went to V103. Remember, Radio One didn't pay him what he wanted but CBS did I believe. Once Ryan left HOT 107.9 bounced back with the A-Team Morning Show which sometimes ranked #1 over Frank & Wanda at V. HOT 107.9 failed once money got tight, Jerry Smokin B left and different management took over. HOT 107.9 was the Hip-Hop station running the South, but nowadays they're trying to hard to keep up with V-103.

Everyone thought that WHTA was doomed after Ryan left, but it took some time but the ATeam developed real good and in the last 2years I was listening to them alot. But I don't understand how in ATL, R1 has a major competitor (V103) and they killed off the morning show, but Houston has NO competition, so they CAN kill the morning show to "save their budget" being the only station in the city. Instead WHTA kills the ATeam and there is no way Rickey Smiley can compete with V103 mornings. Local over Syndication. Should have left ATeam alone and local. R1 always doing things backwards.

Rickey Smiley is #3 18-34 and overall HOT 107.9 is ranked #3 18-34 and #11 in 12+
