Ray Vinson, the new JJ "King of Beepers?"

What the hell is going on?

Every freaking commercial on every news talk station has that Ray Vinson guy talking like Ross Perot on helium, endlessly selling mortgage loans?

Between him and that other mortgage "greatest thing in the history of earth" guy, I cringe every time there is a commercial.


I've been really really enjoying my new Ipod (especially since I won it at a convention), been listening to downloaded Penn Gillette shows.

His show is fantastic! Especially Monkey Tuesday.

Not even close.

Back in the day, I'd have sat down to share a brew with JJ the King of Beepers. He seemed a likeable, if swarthy, weasel. I bought my share of beepers, and never risked bankruptcy over the purchase.

The shysters hocking mortgages on Valley radio are a different breed altogether. I lump 'em in with the payday loan people...predators going after people who can barely afford a beeper, let alone a 30 year mortgage.
 
What I loved about the JJ commercials was the straight man.

"JJ, how come, in such a short time, you have become the most beloved man in Phoenix, by saving them all kinds of money?"


"BECAUSE I AM JJ, I AM THE OWNER, AND I AM THE KING OF BEEPERS!"


Such a crazy time.


(BTW, I did a very short stint consulting at a Mortgage company last year, the amount of pure sleaze there was frightening. They would hire anyone, anyone to sell mortgages. Multiple bankruptcies or felonies? No problem, just make us money.)

Actually, the judge gave me a suspended sentence and the charge was dropped after I completed radio rehab and counseling, so no felonies on my record. As for the bankruptcies--I bought too many beepers in th 90s ;D

JJ had the last laugh...every business that's been in his former location (near 38th St & Indian School) has gone belly-up! Nurse Jeff and I've heard KPHX is the next tenant :eek:
