I'm not sure if it's 50%, I've seen it sprinkled into their playlist but certainly not at that high of a percentage. There was a set played today in the 11 AM hour where Gerald Albright , The Jeff Lorber Fusion, and Brian Culbertson were all played in a row, but that's the most proficient I've seen it.
Well, its about time smooth jazz received some respect from traditional jazz snobs. Purists have dismissed SJ for so many years but it is just as legit a genre as Dixieland or bebop. I know many smooth jazz artists who worked (and still work) very hard both as writers and performers.

I totally agree with you. It's only a fraction of the playlist anyway. I am beyond irritated that these "snobs," and of course rockers and metalheads badmouth and put down smooth jazz. A number of these artists actually recorded and played not just smooth jazz, but traditional, mainstream jazz as well. It's not just "elevator music." It certainly takes talent and devotion to play.
