Saturday mornings would be wasted without the cheap E/I shows. 3 hrs of infomercials would air if E/I wasn't a requirement. Or, on Fox stations, 3 hrs of NEWS - like we need to know about a robbery 5 times in a row. 25 years ago this would be completely different. NBC, ABC and CBS still had cartoons and Fox was still a "toddler" - adding Fox Kids I think around 1990 - that's around when Fun House started. But in 1989, kids would wake up early on Saturday mornings, still in their P.J.'s and eating Lucky Charms, or Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Looney Tunes. Not now. They are all on Nick watching the 2,234th rerun of SpongeBob, or Disney watching another non-funny rerun of Jessie, or Cartoon Network watching Adventure Time. Cable has taken it over.
