Remeber The Morning Blend with Dominick Brascia on Beaumonts KOLE?

I think what Dominick meant to say was that KOLE's studios were in Beaumont on Sawyer if I recall correctly, at the old KLVI studios.

I listened to 1340 KOLE in the late 70's to early 80's when I was a kid growing up near Lake Charles, Louisiana. I recall one of their slogans: Port Arthur's Radio Station! The station was local and live indeed and used a great jingle package!
Here's an aircheck for KOLE from 1979.

Same jingle package as KILT Houston (with some minor changes)....All the on air crew has left the area now from what I know...JJ Stone is in Baton Rouge, Jay Scott is retired in Kingwood, Rex Russell passed away a couple of years back (while still in the area working at KOGT), Jet Crash aka: CE Roland Ritcher is back in his home area of Waco....ahh yes, the good days of Port Arthur and 1340...when music ruled AM radio (KOLE could pass a FM audio proof of performance test...but radios were not made to provide hi fi on AM because of their filtering...listening to a good AM station on a wideband rcvr or AM stereo station on an AM stereo radio is awesome!)

Just listened to that KOLE air check and noticed that there was first few seconds of a Brock Audio commercial from those days that somehow reminded me of KIOC under Drake Chenault, and also of KAYC/KAYD combo prior to the format change AC/Country. Darrell Stevens, Randy Fuller, "Shadow", and Dr. John were some of the deejays there at the time. Radio then was fun to listen to!

Egads!! Drake Chenault on 106....Oh that brings back the old days...I remember when 106.1 was being built out when I was in college..

BTW I jocked at KAYC and KAYD (I was the one who turned off KAYD as an AOR and the next morning we signed on as a Top40 station).....Yeah, radio (AM especially) was fun to listen to.....now its homogenized and even the legendary jocks (like John Records Landecker on 89WLS..now on WLS FM!) cannot do their old shticks that made them famous!!

I moved to the area in 1978 and remember Drake Chenault being used at 106. We had dropped the use of Drake Chenault at a station I worked at in high school and college a couple of years earlier. Radio automation has progressed significantly due to the technology that is now available. Voice tracking is the Drake Chenault of today.

I remember listening to KAYD back in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when I wasn't listening to KZOM or KWIC. It all depended on who was driving the car pool. Neil Harrison comes to mind...

Neil was never on KAYD that I know of..he was only on KAYC when I was there...Right after the switch to Top40 there was the PD of KAYD, Michael, under the AOR format doing mornings (and he sounded like he was on Valium ..which didnt help the format change)..then Randy Fuller middays, Jerry Michaels (who had worked at KLVI prior to KAYD) was afternoon drive...and cant recall who did nights/overnights on KAYD weeknights..I worked on the AM and FM weekends doing overnights primarily and ran AT40 on Sunday nights..Did a morning drive on KAYD once and all the sales girls were saying I should have been doing MD all the time...(not sure if that was a good thing to me or just anything was better than Michael...he was WAAAAY too laid back for the top40 format!)

Up until around maybe August '80 the music was top 40 that had rock tendencies but then had R&B tendencies like a "hot" format up until the switch. Seem to recall a "Jay Gonzales" as one of the jocks on the weekends. I pretty much tuned the FM out after the change but kept listening to the AC that came to KAYC. Ah, the good ol' days!...................

IIRC correctly, 97.5 KAYD went AOR to Top40 to Disco to Country....but cant recall the year of flip except the AOR to Top40 change...

Yep, the good ole days
