Report that CBS tentatively gets WKDN in Camden and WFSI in Annapolis, MD

Here are suggested formats for 106.x. Since this frequency is at the 'other' end of the dial
how bout HOT HITS 106.x. Would be in competition with Q-102, and some of the R & b formats.
I dont want KYW-FM in the same fashion as WIP-AM and 'fm'. How bout a country format. For
years we are forced to listen to XTU, just some competition!!! Or even better than all of the above;
talk formats. Such as a Fox Sports station. Would be entitled, "Fox 106 Sports" Talk Radio 106.

They'd put Fox Sports on an AM station first. Pretty sure we're going to see KYW-FM, a simulcast of 1060. Possibly WPHT-FM? Move WPHT over to 106.9? Will the FCC make CBS get rid of 1 station? 610? Who would buy a pretty good AM signal? Greater Media? Could they put a talk station on 610? Is Clear Channel able to buy another station in Philly? Entercom or Cumulus? Both don't have operations in the city. Cumulus could simulcast WABC minus Rush from 12-3. Entercom is based here right in the heart of Philly radio, Bala Cynwyd.

I'm sure it's going to be, K Y W, Newsradio, one oh six nine.

Unless I'm missing something, CBS owns 2 AM and 2 FM in Philly. And just one TV. That's well under the ownership caps.

Only a couple of the NY AMs and one TV show up in the Philly MSA. So I think they'd be able to add an FM.

See below:

The caps are based on a sliding scale that increases with the size of the local market. As a general rule, one entity may own (a) up to five commercial radio stations, not more than three of which are in the same service (i.e., AM or FM), in a market with 14 or fewer radio stations; (b) up to six commercial radio stations, not more than four of which are in the same service, in a market with between 15 and 29 radio stations; (c) up to seven commercial radio stations, not more than four of which are in the same service, in a radio market with between 30 and 44 radio stations; and (d) up to eight commercial radio stations, not more than five of which are in the same service, in a radio market with 45 or more radio stations.

CBS owns 2 TV stations in Philly, KYW TV, CBS3 and WPSG, the CW station here. CBS owned WMMR and when they bought Infinity radio, they were forced to sell one radio station. They sold 93.3 to Greater Media.

Ha! Forgot about CW. Most folks probably do.... :D

I think the rules changes after the Infinity merger. OK, so here's the rule about TV & Radio:

• Radio/Television Cross-Ownership Limit – The Quadrennial Review Order retained the radio/television cross-ownership limit. Under that rule, one company may own in a single market: one TV station (two TV stations if permitted by the local TV ownership rule) and one radio station regardless of total market size; or if at least 10 independent media voices (i.e., broadcast facilities owned by different entities) would remain after the merger, up to two TV stations and up to four radio stations; or if at least 20 independently owned media voices would remain post-merger, up to two TV stations and up to six radio stations or one TV station and up to seven radio stations. Parties must also comply with the local radio ownership rule and the local TV ownership rule.

If CBS doesn't have to sell one of the AM stations, everything stays the same and we get KYW in FM stereo with no static under power lines.

Any talk of Family Radio buying an AM station in the market? So far when they've sold an FM they bought an AM for their programming - they already are on 2 AMs in Baltimore, when they sold the flagship station in San Francisco they bought they bought 610 there. Since WKDN was an early & longtime affiliate since 1969 & this area probably does well with contributors, it would seem like they would keep a presence in the market. With WIP & WPEN now on FM, their AM stations seem to be an afterthought, but I could see Family Radio maybe going to WTMR or maybe even 640 or 1680?

Both WPEN-AM and WIP-AM seem to be used for overflow sports programming if they are not simulcasting their FM sister station.

That's not exactly true. They sold KEAR-FM in SF to CBS and got 610 plus cash in exchange. I imagine they'll do something similar in Philly & DC, but they aren't required to trade within the market. They could buy the FM in Philly and give Family some AMs in West Palm Beach or Houston, where there might be more retirees. CBS has a bunch of AMs around the country. But from that I read in the article at the start of this thread, it looks like they're looking to get out of broadcasting completely.

Philly isn't that big a country market. WXTU covers the format well enough.

And I don't think a swap is in the offing. With Camping "retiring" after his second false alarm in six months, I think "Family" Radio is finally going to give up the ghost and sell or lease what they have left. Cash on the barrelhead now to avoid the point where "donations" no longer cover expenses.

CBS paid $95 million for KEAR-FM and Family Radio then bought KFRC 610 for $35 million which for just the phyisical assets they way over paid. This is all on the record at the FCC. Even back then folks at Family Radio had a screw loose somewhere!

Family Radio doesn't need to be on the air anymore, now that the world didn't end three times and there's no new date for the world to end.

That would be awesome! The first song they should play is Britney Spears - Till The World Ends.
