This was in the days where AFN was just one TV channel and carried across Germany and Europe on multiple UHF channels. Not all channels will be listed in this post, but the most-viewed channels were: Ch 34 SHAPE (4,500 watts); Ch 33 Brussels (1,000 watts); Ch 29 Berlin (4,000 watts); Ch 51 Bitburg Air Base (5,000 watts); Chs 23 and 31 Frankfurt (40 and 60 watts); Ch 30 Kaiserslautern (3000 watts); Chs 22 and 56 in Mannheim (15 and 150 watts); Channels 44 and 57 in Nuernberg (both 1.5 watts); Ch 55 Stuttgart (50 watts); Ch 30 Vogelweh (3000 watts); Ch 22 Wiesbaden (2000 watts); and Ch 80 Soesterberg (20,000 watts).

2330 Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve (Now this is interesting. How did AFN arrange this for the military? Times Square 'ball drop' was at 5:59AM the next morning in Germany. Did he do a separate broadcast solely for the military audience with a European countdown or something? ABC was not airing primetime NYE at that time, as they aired reruns of sitcoms and Homefront from 8-11p.)

'Android.' (1982) In the distant future, MAX-404 (Don Osses), an almost-human android, works as an assistant to Dr. Daniel (Klaus Kinski) on a remote, two-man, space station/laboratory. 'Max', whose emotional abilities have been growing stronger every day, allows a ship with three escaped fugitives from a penal planet to dock at the station against Dr. Daniel's orders. The snooping convicts discover that Dr. Daniel has been secretly working on another android, Cassandra-405, a beautiful and powerful female with human emotions. 'Max' is pleased at the discovery until he figures out that Dr. Daniel is planning to unplug him and keep the beautiful Cassandra-405 all to himself.
