Jaime Escalante first became known to most Americans when actor Edward James Olmos portrayed the unorthodox Latino math teacher in the uplifting 1988 motion picture 'Stand & Deliver.' Hailed for teaching inner-city kids the intricacies of calculus and higher mathematics, since the movie Escalante has become as famous for his advocacy of young people and public education as for his flamboyant style. In this series from the Foundation of the Advancement of Science and Education, Jaime Escalante himself guides young viewers through the wonderful possibilities their futures hold in store. From industrial design and personal communication to Oceanic exploration, there are great careers just around the corner for kids who can stand and deliver. AFRTS SatNet 6 Oct 1995 - Times PACIFIC...as they were based out of a new operations center in Riverside, CA at that point. Prior to that they were in Sun Valley. That building fed all of the AFRTS programming that went to Germany, Japan, Italy, Korea, and all over the world - including on Navy ships! If you want to translate these times into German time, add 9 hours. Tokyo and Okinawa are 17 hrs ahead. E.G., the 0000 PT show came on at 9am CET, and 5PM JST.

Speaking of TKS Cable, just to make a comparison of then vs. now, I found a list of channels the cable company currently carries for American military personnel in Germany. The major difference is just about all of the channels they carry now are American, as opposed to in the '90s and 2000s when it largely carried UK-based networks. All of the AFN networks, of course, are included.
