Retro Article: "The Big News" was BIG news in 1961

Interesting, yet brief article. It confirms that Los Angeles was indeed a trend-setter in local tv news. Many concepts that are standard in local news today started in the L.A. market. I remember as a kid visiting L.A. around 1970, I was amazed that there were atleast five stations doing local news at the same time, 5-7pm. Perhaps the "Hollywood" aspect of the L.A. market was the impetus, but as in many cultural events, Los Angeles was first. Whether it be hour-long news, male/female co-anchors, live shots of reporters, helicopters, on and on, L.A. was the leader. Any study of local tv news needs to look at Los Angeles as the incubator of the medium.
