Any idea what New Bedford/Providence's Ch. 6 ran on
Tuesday nights at 10? Strange to see "Marcus Welby,
M.D." on delay.

It's also quite possible that Providence's Ch. 12 did run
CBS News at 6, as the Eye Network has always offered
its Sunday newscast at either 6 or 6:30. TV Guide did
not switch from listing the network newscasts as simply
"News" to "ABC News," "CBS News," "NBC News" until the
summer of 1970, when Chet Huntley retired and NBC's newscast
became "NBC Nightly News". I wouldn't know if this Boston
newspaper followed suit.

The "duckpin bowling" listing makes me curious as well. Candlepins, although not in vogue as much today, was the rage in that region. (We were in New England a few months ago....no trip there is complete without playing candlepin!)

I dunno who owned WHDH 5 in 1958 when the Saturday series "Candlepin Bowling" debuted, but it stayed on 5 thru what had to have been at least 1 ownership change, running for 38 years or so.

Would the paper list "duckpins" so as to discourage the viewer, and watch ch 5 on Saturday???

Candlepin bowling is also quite popular in the Maritimes (ATV ran a weekly show on Saturdays for several years and EastLink's community channels currently run a show on Sundays). I'm also aware of a few bowling alleys in the Toronto area, home to many expat Maritimers, with some candlepin lanes.

Candlepins in Toronto, really??? [This must not be confused with "5-pins" which is popular in Canada.]

I do recall a combo a c'pin/10-pin place in Quebec, but I don't know if it is still in biz.

cd

In many parts of New Hampshire and Maine, you're still hard pressed to find anything other than candlepin when looking for a bowling alley! Candlepin bowling was shown on TV every weekend on WNDS (now My 50) as recently as five years ago - the present ownership nixed it. Before that, it was on WCVB.

Not sure if anyone is showing candlepin bowling in the Boston market now, but the loss of TV coverage did irk an awful lot of people when the plug was pulled.

According to the listings, 6 usually ran Welby in tandem with the net, so I'm guessing there must have been a pre-emption the previous week, but can't say for sure since I don't have the previous week's listings. Can anyone out there fill in the blank?

I'm sure! As recently as 2 years ago, CN8 cable channel had c'pin *live* on Saturday morning, and I could watch online! Got my fix each week....now I am not sure it's even on cable....siggghhhhh

When I lived in TO in the early 90s (Rexdale area), there was a bowling alley I know for sure around Kipling/Dixon that offered it.
