While the tale's incestuous twist is unproven, Emeline did bear an illegitimate child and, as a reslt, lived as a pariah and died in poverty. While the tale's incestuous twist is unproven, Emeline did bear an illegitimate child and, as a reslt, lived as a pariah and died in poverty. The story, host David McCullough says, reflects 'the strengths and failures of community.' Narrator: Amanda Plummer.
