Retro Local Newscast: WEWS News Channel 5 11PM Newscast 9/13/1993 with Ads

I do remember seeing Wilma and Roy together on 5 in the early 90's. They were a good team on the station and really were the best on Live on Five. Did not know Wilma Smith would go over to 8 until I saw a promo with Virgil Dominic welcoming her with a photo on the screen to boot. What would be more strange was Wilma making her debut shortly before 8 would switch from CBS to Fox.

Roy stuck around for five more years after the newscast until he was booted when 5 underwent a huge facelift in its newscast. I thought he was good, but then he disappeared. I read he was going to 3 for a possible 5pm newscast, but they ended up expanded its 6pm newscast (3, not 5), which later split into a half-hour at 6 and a half-hour at 7. I think then Roy retired from news.

I barely remember Roy, and I was still in town when this video was recorded (barely).

I'm not a fan of the ABC MNF presentation of the era, and even the NewsChannel 5 open is a bit muted. I love the "big" opens with "big" graphics and talent mentions, and big voiced announcers. I'm probably unfairly comparing it with the classic Ernie Anderson-voiced opens which preceded it...
