By the fall of 1948 schedules would look much different. Three more stations (WJZ-TV Channel 7, the ABC O&O; WPIX Channel 11, an independent owned by the New York Daily News; and Newark-based independent WATV channel 13) would be telecasting daily schedules. Within months WNBT and the emerging NBC television network would build its Tuesday schedule around Milton Berle's Texaco Star Theater airing from 8 to 9 PM. But on this night Berle, months away from his TV series debut, was hosting an 8 PM comedy-variety program for the NBC radio network on WNBT's sister station WNBC (AM). Formatically that show was a lot like the TV program although it wouldn't have the impact which Berle on television would have only a short time later.
