This schedule post chronicles the week during which The Nine O'Clock News – the newscast that began KOKH's current news department – launched. The launch of the newscast – which was later retitled the Fox 25 Primetime News at Nine in 2000, and was originally anchored by Jack Bowen (who left in 2000), Kirsten McIntyre (who left in 2002), Tim Ross (who served as chief meteorologist until 1999) and Mike Steely (who served as sports director until 1999) – was KOKH's second venture into local news programming, following the "Newstouch 25" hourly update format that existed from around the time of its conversion from an educational independent to a commercial indie in 1979 until it became a Fox affiliate in 1991.
(Side note: The dramas shown as airing during the 10:00pm hour each weeknight during the period had previously aired in the 9:00 hour, and "The Hitchhiker" and "Extra" had respectively aired at 10:00 and 10:30pm prior to the newscast's launch.)
