Retro: Oklahoma City - Week of October 17, 1982

This post looks at the week of October 17-23, 1982, the week KAUT-TV adopted a free-to-air broadcast schedule full-time. The station ceased carrying VEU, the subscription television service launched by KAUT founding owner Golden West Broadcasters, on October 16. (VEU continued to operate until September 1984 over KNBN-TV (now KDAF) in Dallas-Fort Worth and WVEU (now WUPA) in Atlanta.) This post will also include listings for regional and national superstations available on cable and MMDS providers in the Oklahoma City market. (I will likely add listings for superstations to my earlier posts at later dates.)

Hey tmanokc,

can you also post these listings?

"Retro: Oklahoma City - Week of October 5, 1986"

(the week that the Fox network launched on KAUT)

I believe the “Fantasy” listed on ch. 4 (2:30 PM) was a wish-fulfillment show hosted by Peter Marshall and Leslie Uggams. It ran to October 28, 1983. Also, on ch. 9 at 7:30 AM Saturday, that should be The Sylvester & Tweety/Daffy & Speedy Show.

Thanks. Any chance you have Tulsa listing from this time frame?

Yes. All issues of Television News published in the Oklahoman prior to the changeover to the TV This Week format in the spring of 1997 included listings for stations in surrounding markets (Tulsa, Wichita, Amarillo, Ada-Ardmore-Sherman, Dallas-Fort Worth, Lawton-Wichita Falls and, until 1982, Fort Smith-Fayetteville [the latter only for KFSA-TV/KFSM-TV]) within the supplement. Once the newspaper revamped the TV listings supplement in 1997, out-of-market stations were placed in two separate editions of TV This Week, one for the Tulsa area and one for the other surrounding markets.

I may add out-of-market listings from some of the PDF copies of Television News I have in the near future. Though I should note that while I have a few PDF copies of both the Tulsa and statewide editions of TV This Week that I have downloaded from the Oklahoman's digital archive, I don't have as many right now in my collection compared to the Television News PDF copies. So, unless I find copies of TV This Week from the archive that are suitable for conversion/download, any listings I post from 1997 onward would primarily come from the Oklahoma City (Cox listings) edition of the supplement.
