Howdy Doody on the CBS affil as well as
the NBC? (See WOW 6 below.)

> 10:00 Weather Sketches (Frank Peddie/B-Nee)

Frank Peddie did WX in the 1960s on KTAR-TV 12
Mesa-Phoenix (now KPNX, aka Mc12).

> 10:05 All the News (Floyd Kalber)

Was this Omaha local, before his long Chicago run?

Missed it when I proofread it...the 4:30 show on channel 3 is Circle 3 Ranch.

> KVTV 9-Sioux City
> 10:10 Old Home Weather (Conrad Johnson)

Conrad Johnson spent about 40 years at WMT/KGAN Ch. 2 in Cedar Rapids. He was one of the best and most knowledgeable television meteorologists ever. Why he never got a major-market gig I'll never know (unless of course he didn't want to).
Edited by Keith Elster on 03/30/06 12:37 AM.

Yes it was. Kalber arrived in Chicago in 1960.

> "The Encyclopedia of TV Game Shows" by Wostbrock, et. al.,
says it was a French radio show, "Cent Francs La Seconde"
(100 Francs a Second), created by a man named Jean Paul Blondeau.

The idea was that two contestants received a dollar for every
second they remained on stage, answering questions; an incorrect
answer by a player and the teammate had to perform a stunt, which
usually ended in a pie in the face, a dousing with water, etc.
If something called "the outside event" (a designated event happening
outside the studio at some unknown time, such as the birth of a baby at a specific hospital, or a train arriving at Grand Central Station) took place while the contestants were on stage, they lost all the money. They
could stop at any time, or remain on stage in hopes that the
"outside event" would occur later.

The show always aired in primetime: on DuMont, September 20, 1953-
June 14, 1954; NBC, July 4, 1954-August 22, 1954; ABC, October 1,
1954-June 24, 1955; NBC, July 5, 1955-August 30, 1955; ABC, September
2, 1955-August 31, 1956; NBC, June 22, 1957-September 28, 1957.
Jan Murray acquired the American rights to this show and emceed it as well.

Later, Murray sold "Dollar A Second" and "Treasure Hunt" to
Chuck Barris. "Treasure Hunt" was quite successful in the '70s,
but an attempt to revive "Dollar A Second" never got past the
pilot stage around 1981. GSN once showed it, and "pitiful" is
a pretty adequate word for it. BTW, Jan Murray hosted the original
"Treasure Hunt" as well as "Dollar"; Geoff Edwards hosted the later
"Treasure Hunt" and the 1980s "Dollar" pilot.
