Ronnie Dee and the Satellites will be meeting with Bob Spicer from WLLI FM, New Bedford, Jack Rivers from WNRI AM, Woonsocket, and who knows who else will show up on Saturday, September 19, 11:00am at the Star Diner 140 Newport Ave, Rumford, RI. Great food and radio history.

Ronnie Dee and the Satellites hits like Last Night I Dreamed & Bunny Lee can be heard on the Star Diners vintage jukebox.


“Papa Joe” says, “We’ve been trying to get together for months and now, finally, we nailed it down and “booked the date”. Got some other DJs and personalities on the list who haven’t made a commitment yet, but I’m hoping! This is an open invitation for all radio DJ’s to join us.



ALSO, we have put out an open invitation to friends and fans in the area to cruise on in and join us just like ‘back in the day’.

Can’t wait to see the faces of the ‘newbie’s’ to the Star when they walk in the door. It’s like stepping back in time! Genuine, authentic, 50s décor and just a overwhelming feeling of nostalgic bliss! … THE PERFECT place to reminisce … Especially when you hear the tunes from the ’50s and early ’60s playing on the jukebox!

According to Radio-locator it's in Humboldt TN. I googled Bob Spicer and found he's a PD and manager of a Fall River station here: http://www.doowoptaxi.com/bob_spicer.html
Maybe it's some old set of calls that used to be in New Bedford or Fall River
But if you play the cut from 7/16/09 it does say it's on WLLI-FM
Confusing. Maybe we should all show up.
 
This sounds like an event just to get some customers into the diner. I'm not knocking it. Fine idea. But it really comes off more like a promotion to save a business that isn't doing so good. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. But I've been by there several times. I used to live right down the road. I never recall seeing the parking lot very full.
 
"COFFEE AT THE STAR ... What a BLAST!!

It took some doin', but we finally managed to get Ronnie Dee, the Satellites, our DJ friends and fans together for "Coffee At The Star" Saturday, September 19th at our favorite, REAL WORLD Pit Stop ... the Star Diner in Rumford, RI.

“Papa Joe” says, “It was absolutely FANtastic! Bob Spicer from WLLI-FM, Dale Abbott, from WOON AM, Jack Rivers and Elwood from WNRI AM, Mike Landry from WARL's Guido and the DooWoppers show, and, of course, Ronnie Dee, the Satellites and fans ALL had an OUTSTANDING, Rockin' Good Time! AND, what really put it OVER THE TOP ... Don Robinson of the Inspirations and Virigina Anderson, wife of Leslie Anderson, lead singer of the Dubs, were there, too!

We ALL had such a great time, that everyone was asking, "Can do it again?!"

SO ... We're already planning our next "Coffee At The Star"! We're shooting for a Thursday at 4:00pm sometime in late October.

If we can pull it off, our good friend, Abie of Abie's Doo Wop Taxi, Mister "Internet Doo Wop" himself, will be the Guest Of Honor!!

Of course, we will again put out an open invitation to friends and fans in the area to cruise on in and join us just like ‘back in the day’. Can't wait!!
