Review of Shaun and Choppy after two days

They are real sportzy, which means zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I willl be surprised if the ratings are close to what Jagger was pulling.

I listened the last 2 days, I kinda like it. But I'm a sports guy, so sportsy is good for me. Mike and Mike were talking about Andrew Bynum and the Red Sox, and they were talking about Josh Hamilton's injury. If you don't like sports, you probably won't like their show, but I get the feeling they're going after the ESPN listener who wants to hear local sports talk in the morning. They won't come close to the Musers ratings, but I could see them taking from ESPN.

How's the Billy Preston song go? "Nothing from Nothing leaves Nothing'?

Last time I looked, Both ESPN and KRLD-FM had trouble staying in the top 15 or 20 Men 25-54. Does Gilbert really think that getting some of ESPN's audience is going to help that much?

I think RJ Choppy was the only talent worth a damn at espn. This move puts the fan firmly into the #2 spot. I wouldn't even turn on 1033 anymore other then Rangers and maybe espn on weekends.

Regarding your last part, I am in complete agreement. I don't want to hear Mike and Mike talk about the NFL 365 days of the year, Ben and Skin aren't as entertaining as they think they are, Cowherd is a blowhard, and Randy Galloway bores me to tears.

In fact, I might just delete ESPN from my presets all together.

They are only good for the play by play.

Yeah- I caught five minutes and was reaching for the dial. The Courage Boys should actually gain ground with this- not that they needed to. It might help Russ too.

They're fine, just very technical sports talkers that equals, small/specific (but very loyal high TSL) audience. I assume CBS wants this, it's not like they didn't know what they were getting. My guess is they're fine with a lower cume, but trying to program that higher TSL into a smaller audience. (like the ticket). I bet it works actually. Gotta remember, they're not trying to beat Kid Kraddick or Jody Dean.

I love being 'sportzy' and love Norm on The Ticket. But these guys are more in-your-face sportzy. First thing in the morning I'm still trying to get going and don't need 'angry' sports.

I really enjoyed the conversational version that Jagger and the crew had. I thought Henson was a nice addition and I enjoyed Jasmine in this format.

Now, Jasmine is the token sports girl and it seems more contrived to get her involved. Shaun seems to dominate the show for the most part and he seems angry most the time to me. Very little conversation, more point counter point after Shaun's monologue on the situation.

Now, with Newy moving on so he can spend more time with his pregnant wife this summer, it's more of 'New School'.

Sorry, I've listened for three weeks and I'm moving on. Just not enjoyable to listen to.

Sorry, Jasmine. I hope it works out for you better than it did for Jagger and Henson.

Who cares.

Shaun does talk alot, but I wonder if that has to do with being new in town and insecure about his argument. He talks more than Choppy, but still seems to get owned in every sports argument. That's expected though, Choppy's been here forever, knows the local teams a ton more. I imagine things will get to a more 50-50 role once they get going. Who knows what the ratings will be like. This is a sports town without a local morning all sports show, but a market that's loathe to welcome outsiders with open arms for whatever reason. Should be interesting after a few months of being on the air.

I guess Dunham and Miller on KTCK are not local.

They're local. Not all sports. More like 30% on a good day.
But who cares what %???

The purpose of a radio show is to draw an audience, not to fit into some preconceived notion of what a format should sound like. So they only talk sports 30% of the time, am I the only one that has noticed that they consistently are #1 men 25-54, and compete well in mornings with persons 25-54?

So they mix in schtick and bits. They also absolutely KILL the competition. Give them their due...

They're without a doubt the best overall show in town. But tomorrow morning, when I want to hear Mavs/Lakers, or something of that ilk, they're not the first place I'm turning to.
