Just finished listening to Loren and Wally's 25th Anniversary CD. It includes alot of very funny comedy bits going all the way back to 1982. Loren and Wally started as a team back on the old WVBF in September 1981.
There is a brief introduction including a mention of 5 former members of the L&A family who have passed on:
-Christian Paul: comedy sidekick from their early years. As I recall, Christian died of heart failure (at a very young age) sometime around 1994. A good portion of the comedy bits on this CD belong to him and date from 1982-1993
-Bill Connell: former Mass. State Trooper and traffic reporter
-Bill Heckbert: I think he was a comedy sidekick but not sure
-Mickey and Salty Brine: Salty was Wally's father and a Providence, RI radio legend who passed away a year ago. Dont know who Mickey was...his mother??
Many of the installments included are bits that L&A run on the air occasionally at listener requests while others I havent heard in quite awhile including:
-Mr Rogers Wins the Lottery (1982)
-Clinton Lie Detector
-Goosey the Clown
-Freakin Ford
-Wally's Tiffany Story (a classic that is frequently requested)
and many others.
There should have been more included.
There are also some pictures throughout the CD pamphlet of various Loren & Wally "casts" (but doesnt list who they are) throughout the WVBF, WCLB, WKLB, and WROR days. After 25 years, I suppose a full list of all those people who worked with them would fill a book. I recall that "Man of 1000 Voices" Joe Alaskey was their comedy sidekick at one point some years ago before leaving for LA. Gay Vernon was once their newsreader. She is currently News Director at Magic 106.7.
But it was good to hear some old familiar names and voices like Nick Nills, Joanie Ciani, Len Nalo, and possibly even Jodi Winchester who was L&A's producer some time back but eventually married Wally.
While I would have liked alot more included, it's still a very funny CD. I orderd mine online via WROR.com. It's also available at all Strawberries, FYE, and Newbury Comics locations according to WROR.com
Thumbs up!
