Rhodes says AAR is in breach of her contract

Ultimajock said:

This would be true if there is nothing in her morals cluse that deals with this issue. I checked and I don't have it in mine. Plus as I keep pointing out she did this off the air not on the air. There is no such thing as free speech in the work place. But outside is another thing. Even if she was on a station event if the station was OK with it then what's the problem? The probelm is I'll bet this has something to do with the Clinton's deep ties to AAR.

I think the problem lies in the fact that Mark Green is an ardent supporter of Clinton........this is a problem.

On the other hand, she was only at the function because she workes for AAR.
If I went to a station function as the face of the Network, I had better watch who & how I took shots at friends of "the man".

Damn the man!

Why is it when people like Michael Savage, who says things a thousand times worse on the air about Hillary Clinton than Randi Rhodes could even THINK of saying OFF the air, nothing ever happens to him. No reprisals from HIS syndicator, he just gets off scot-free. But when Randi Rhodes says something that at worst could be considered mildly crude, she gets docked "indefinately".

This is BULL! This is not helping your image Air America. C'mon!, I thought you guys were above this! There are people out there on the air right now somewhere who are saying much worse things about Hillary Clinton passionately and in the deadness of their hearts than Randi Rhodes ever could in crude sarcasm. And you REALLY don't want to mess with her fans right now.

And if Hillary's camp had a hand in this, please wash it. This is not helping her either. Randi's fans collectively have just enough to tip the scales in the very TIGHT race..

Please, I bet they can't hold a sniper fire-ignited candle to Steph's fan base.

Where did you get that idea? I've heard him say several times (on his Saturday program, "Seven Days") that he's neutral in the race between Clinton and Obama.

Because most people know that a party for AAR, it's and agency reps who buy air time for clients plus PDs and ODs from around the country Bill Clinton was the guest speaker and is very close to the Greens.

So was Bill "Judas" Richardson, before he joined the crowd jumping on the Obama bandwagon. Maybe the Clintons should be thankful that Green is remaining neutral.

Which is why she SHOULD have done it ON THE AIR. That way, no one would have heard it and she wouldn't be in trouble.

The above post is dead-on. She's on a hundred stations with no audience. Randi should quit AAR and get another syndication deal so she could become a household name like Eleanor Clift.

According to Talkers Magazine, Rhodes has more than 1.5 million listeners. Not in the same league as Rush, but probably more than anybody who frequents this board.

If you have seen the numbers from Talkers Magazine, you know that there are several estimates of audience size that are very questionable.
Randi's s just one of them.

Then I assume you have proof?

Have you ever thought that they are showing more class by setting a standard than let some three hundred pound guy talk all the garbage he wants? "Whore" is not a classy word. Sure the opposition will use it, but it shows how much more brassy and brashful they are.

The big difference here is that AAR is set up to push an agenda rather than as a syndicated radio business. With Rhodes expressing an opinion contrary to the party mission, the AAR management wanted to publicly slap her down for not being in lockstep with them.
I agree with the poster who said Rhodes should try to sign with a diferent syndicator. She is talented and might fly well on her own.

The party mission? The party mission is to defeat Republicans, but the party is also divided between Clinton supporters and Obama supporters. Charlie Kireker, the new principal owner and Chairman of Air America, is an Obama supporter and fund-raiser.

Rhodes is also an Obama supporter.

Kireker was reportedly ticked because Rhodes has been driving away Clinton supporters by attacking Hillary instead of giving Dems what they want to hear == attacks on Bush, McCain and the rest of the GOP.

A source at AAR told BlatherWatch, "Kireker was apoplectic." He says he expects Randi will be suspended for several weeks.

As a political independent who has always welcomed the appearance of Randi Rhodes and AAR as a welcome alternative to the over-abundance of right wing talk radio spew, I personally found Randi Rhodes remarks to be inappropriate and offensive.

But nowhere near as inappropriate or offensive as the double standard AAR has demonstrated by its assault on the free speech rights of an employee off the air. Especially if....as purported...no one present raised any objection at the time. IMHO, AAR's trampling of a constitutional guarantee represents the undoing of a lot of the good they've been trying to accomplish.

What "constitutional guarantee?" The First Amendment prohibits the government from limiting your speech -- it says nothing about businesses such as Air America.

Seems to me the suspension of Rhodes was strictly a business decision -- the liberal blogs and message boards are full of comments from outraged Clinton supporters who say they've stopped listening to Rhodes and/or Air America because of Rhodes' attacks on Clinton, both on and off the air.
