RI Radio Hall of Fame

Caught this one on TurnTo10.com...

Rhode Island Radio Legends Honored: http://www.turnto10.com/northeast/jar/news.apx.-content-articles-JAR-2008-04-10-0018.html

Salty Brine
Arlene Violet
Sherm Strickhauser
Charlie Jeffards
Paul & Al
and more...

I've had the privilege to work alongside a few of these legends and I have to say it's truly deserved. Congratulations to those honored!

Update: Okay, apparently the link is now dead... though it was working 10 minutes ago... So much for my second post on this site...

The other inductees are Gary Degraide, Chuck Stevens & Chris Clark. A good list....Having worked w/ Salty, Charlie, Chuck & Gary & knowing Sherm, Arlene & Chris on the outside-couldn't agree more (and what I know of Paul & Al, same goes for them)

Congrats all

It's about time someone did something like this. All good inductees. Hopefully in the future we'll see Gary's dad Gene DeGraide, Joan Edwardsen, Geoff Charles, Mike Sheridan, & Carolyn Fox. I hope this becomes an annual thing.

It is quite a narrow list. There are so, so many more names that should be included, and many of them should come before some of those who are mentioned. Just my two cents.

Arlene Violet???????? Not a bad lady, but give me a break.

I agree with some of the list. But what about Jimmy Gray? He has made a significant contribution to radio for many
many years. Anyone born after 1965 in RI or Southeastern Mass. Has listened to WPRO-AM/FM. And has heard him
on both stations. No disrespect to Arlene. But come on.... Larry "Ice Cold" Kruger should be inducted before Arlene. Just my 2 cents. Gio should be added at some point as well.

Norm Jagolinzer and Tony Rizzini!

For most of the '70s and early '80's they DOMINATED Providence morning drive! Why aren't they mentioned anywhere?

oh man, your right. Arlene Violet? who's next? Mary Ann?

and looking at it further, she's the only one who was asked to leave RIradio and never made it back. all the others per servered for years locally and are still working or worked till they died at the mike

Wknd is incorrect.... it is Gene DeGraide being inducted, not Gary.
I am going by what I see on turn to 10.com and it is still showing Gary Degraide as of 7:54am....either way, both are deserving.

And everybody chill....it is the inagural class....Norm Jagolinzer belongs in there too and I think all of them will get their chance as the years go on.

Has anyone bothered to ask who chose these people? I know. It's a self-serving group of ******bags who want to look good to the public. Arlene Violet???????????

The website in the Projo article is actually wrong. It's http://riradiohalloffame.org/
The board members are listed on the site.
I think if too many people were included as first inductees there would be nowhere to go for the future, given the dreary long-term prognosis for people to establish themselves in this market.

I think the idea is good and long overdue but "self serving ******bags"? Hey it's radio. Doesn't that go without saying? I think Arlene is there because everybody knows who she is from the days of being a nun, AG, attorney. It's kind of a combination thing because she's so well known.

Would second Gene DeGraide for the RI Radio Hall of Fame and add WPRO's Joe Thomas, WBRU's Mo Shore, WRIU's Bruce Decker, and WEAN's Harry Platt.

Joe Thomas was THE voice of RI summer beaches in the 1960s.

I restored a Firebird convertible while listening to Mo Shore's daily WBRU show.

Bruce Decker has been entertaining Rhode Islander's with his unique and stimulating World Music program on Sunday mornings for over 20 years.

As a sidebar to Harry Platt, this listing is from Brown University. "Harry Platt '40 holds the Brown record for most points scored in one game with 48 and most field goals in one game with 21, both set against Northeastern on Feb. 2, 1938. The 6-3 pivotman gained national prominence that year when he scored 406 points for an average of 21.4 points per game. His average was second highest in the country and in total points he ranked third nationally. As a junior, Platt led Brown to a 21-4 record and participation in the first NCAA tournament.

Nibbles Woodaway does need his props! He gets one from me, as does Gentleman Gene. Can't leave out Jim Mendes either. Dick Pace also deserves a mention, as does Bob Cain. Wouldn't want to leave out WEAN's Ed Pearson and Jim Young, either.

Although he didn't spend his entire career in radio, it would be really classy if the Hall of Fame were to give some sort of 'honorary mention' to Art Lake......before he's no longer with us.
