Richard Lyons passed away Tue Apr 19 2016 on his 57th birthday.A member of found sound pioneers Negativland,he was regularly heard on Over the Edge on KPFA Berkeley CA.Lyons characters included preacher Pastor Dick,70s pop revivalist Dick Vaughn and auto expert Dick Goodbody.
He found an album by Rev Estus Pirkle which the band sampled on their song Christianity is Stupid,then started a hoax claiming a federal officer told them to stop touring because the song may have led 16 yr old David Brom of Rochester MN to kill most of
his family.Media relied on other media reports and did no fact checking.
Lyons suffered from nodular melanoma.
