RIP Bill Hefner - Singer, TV Personality, Radio Station Owner, US Congresman

Word has reached me that Willie G. (Bill) Hefner has died as the result of a brain anuerysm. Of his many accomplishments, these stand out.

* Lead Singer for The Harvesters gospel quartet (1950's - 1960's)
* Host of Bill Hefner's Country-Style Roundup on WBTV (Late 1960's - Early 1970's)
* Sports Anchor on The Morning Report on WBTV (Mid - Late 1960's)
* Owner of WRKB-AM and WRKB-FM (Now WRFX), Kannapolis, NC (1971 - 1984)
* NC 8th District US Congressman (12 terms, 1973 - 1997)

Following retirement from Congress, he retired to his hometown of Albertville, Alabama. I am appreciative of Mr. Hefner on a personal level, because he gave me my first job in broadcasting at WRKB back in 1974.

You can read more about him here . . . . http://www.salisburypost.com/Area/090209-WEB-hefner-dies
