RKO SATURDAYS WHAT'S THE DEAL and WHERE ARE THE RATINGS?

Ok, where's FINN? I'm out of town but a friend who jumped into our conversation last week about mariellen and ellen said that a much better version featuring ellen and jo scacca from boston herald. I've seen him before on emily rooney. 'Best saturday radio and also a weekday radio show that i would listen to aside from howie and todd' that's the message and she's 42-year-old female in suburbs. Isn't that the demographic? My first thought was 'Best Saturday radio? So that means better than money and gardending?' But Finn and a few others last week agreed Saturday RKO local and live has made for some interesting options.Anyone else hear it? Yoyo, I'm looking for you on this one. 2nd question: Where are the ratings? Did someone post link here? I'm curious and I still say all the shows need a local news voice we know!

Thanks for keeping me posted on howie and finneran friday but I fear the RKO haters might have monopolized the boards because several people told me that show featuring the two of them was very funny. :D Still, I agree Finneran is a huge risk.

Hey there Shotgun...

Ellen and Joe were on today and I did hear the first couple hours - I agree, they were good together. He's Herald and she's Globe, so they bantered about that. They discussed a city ordinance in Bangor, Maine banning smoking in a car with kids ($50 fine) - Joe against, Ellen for - a few callers with parents who smoked who hate government but support this ordinance.... Then they talked about Menino's idea about punishing folks who violate gun laws by suspending their driving licenses (pretty funny conversations about how criminals will have to walk home after committing crimes with their illegal weapons... I don't know the ins and outs of the issue, but it did seem kind of silly).

More serious conversations about random searches of teens by police who are 'known gang members' - Joe was for, Ellen against, then a caller whose son, who was not in gangs, was killed by a gang member, who said she would not have had a problem with her son being randomly searched if it kept the neighborhood safe.

Good, relevant, important conversation without horrible name-calling, demonizing, and misrepresenting of facts... This is what I like to listen to and want more of.

The ad for the show actually make fun of the fact that she's been with a number of people - they started with, "It's Ted and Ellen.... It's Ellen O'Brien and Mariellen Burns... It's Ellen O'Brien and Joe Sciacca...."

Safe trip back, okay?

Hey Finn,

Interesting, very interesting. I liked last week and I like the idea of women but my friend, old pal from BZ, says I had to hear it because she said she's heard them both separately or with other people but they really got her attention together.
She's a junky though, so I guess we'll have to see what real audience thinks. I hope I can tune in next week.

I missed most of the Finneran fun. I'm reading the radionandrecords ratings now. I see TKK took a big jump. Did they jump in the 25-plus age category? I can't imagine Finneran being a pull for that crowd. They need some younger voices and just plain younger talk.

If Moe Lauzier stops pontificating and starts having regional guests on from all over Massachusetts, maybe something positive can happen on RKO on the weekends

RKO probably got numbers because of the Governor's race and the DePetro fiasco. It got them in the news.
But that ship is on rocky seas. Flagship station of Entercom? not anymore, WEEI, despite its huge tumble and lowest appearance of the past 5 books, is still what Entercom is counting on in these parts.

Look at the lack of consistency RKO has had, and the small number they edged EEI out on in this book.

Entercom says, Drink more Water...yikes...well at least all they do in Boston is put Mr-Burns-lookalike*
Finneran on air instead. Far as I know, that isn't fatal.

VB in for Howie tomorrow but WRKO too busy with dribble-dribble (Celts at 2 pm); but WCRN has Howie's show.

Not sure if you saw my other post regarding weekend mornings and Sunday nights but I'm wondering if you listen to other stations on Saturday or other shows on 6.80 after Mr. Lauzier. Do you?

Moe Lauzier is a big bore! I didn't listen - he put my friend Pat on the air so I threw him some p.r.

Would like to hear an aircheck, but don't usually time listening to Moe.

But I asked whether you listen to the shows on after him on RKO or other stations Saturday morning (or weekends, and no, I'm not trying to conduct a formal survey any longer, I promise.)

And while I'm at it, someone from our organization was in Medford tonight and left with a question: Does the progressive talk organization (one our group might like to invest in and advocate for) help any 'liberal' or progressive or non right-wing conservative (mostly) male hosts do well on mainstream stations. Do they encourage those voices by calling stations? We've been tracking and RKO had two people say they didn't care who got married (meaning they weren't wililing to take any more gay bashing calls) one say she was voting for Deval, and over on TKK, I think both daytime hosts voted for him. Sullivan I'm sure comes down on the side of 'progressives' on some issues.

Do you, or people associated with progressive talk, think it's worth your time to tell RKO or TKK or BZ when you hear 'new' or 'progressive' or 'different' voices on those stations? I'm not saying you should. But I'm curious as to whether it happens and why it might not.
