Rochester DJ and Hubby's Domestic Dispute Aired On National TV

For the past few days the local newspaper and the ABC TV affiliate have been promoting a story that aired on ABC’s “Primetime” Thursday night involving Rochester radio announcer Kimberley Ray, part of the morning team “Kimberley and Beck” heard on WBZA-FM “The Buzz”, and her husband.

The couple, who have been married for several years, allowed cameras into their home to film their on-going domestic disputes, from which the TV report showed that Ray also incorporates into part of her early morning show. That is when I started to question the validity of this.

Not that I normally watch programs like “Primetime”, I did view this segment out of curiosity and came away with my own personal conclusions.

I found it very disturbing that someone would want to air their personal lives over the radio airwaves. It is not like Brother Wease, who underwent treatment for sinus cancer and informed his listeners. The man was literally fighting for his life.

What was more upsetting is the reaction their 7 year old daughter had to her parent’s screaming and yelling. Having come from a broken home myself, let me clue this couple in by saying that you can’t imagine the emotional impact your arguments are having on your child. For her sake either learn to get along or get a divorce.

Finally let me say that if this TV documentary was nothing but a cheap publicity stunt to garner ratings for Ms. Ray’s radio program, then shame on everyone involved.

I'll pass, thanks. I'm sure I could find other ways of garnishing my 15 minutes of fame than to air my dirty laundry for all to see.

And somewhere in a larger market, a GM, OM or PD is watching and taking notes, "We gotta hire this _______ ('person,' 'woman,' 'chick,' 'b_t_h.')"

Mission accomplished.

Duh. :)

Let's consider for a moment over whether you would ever allow a network TV crew into your home to allow the entire country to watch you and your family and everything else you do, especially for no fabulous cash prizes, trips and merchandise. If either one of them had a webcam before, I shudder to think what was going on in the chatrooms they visited.

Let's also consider the past record of the kinds of people who show up for reality TV shows tryouts that just happen to have experience in the "struggling actor/actress" profession and/or manage to land agents in the process.

Many of them end up doing TV commercials, endorsements, and one or two even have landed talk show gigs! Of course, why would anyone care about what these people think, but Madison Avenue apparently thinks you and I do.

Clearly, this is a cash in publicity stunt. Whether the daughter is in on it (now don't believe mommy and daddy when we are calling each other names and throwing things, we're doing it to pay for your college and for our fabulous plasma TV, new car, new home, future employment) is the only thing open to question.

If for some reason these people are for real, the following questions need to be asked:

1) Considering their lousy judgment on doing this, why would anyone want to hear either one of them talk about ANYTHING. I wouldn't trust them to give me the high temperature for today.

2) Why hasn't the daughter gotten her own attorney yet. When this sleazefest explodes, the only one I care about is her and seeing that her rights and interests are protected.

3) Why would a station employ them? The Buzz-Your Station to Destroy Family Values.
