ROCK RADIO is back in MODESTO as well as STOCKTON!

After a 2 and a half year absence, ROCK 96.7 is back on KMRQ. A little background on this station. KMRQ-96.7 became Active Rock on JANUARY 26, 2001 after dropping RHYTHMIC OLDIES as KKME. Essentially ROCK 96.7 was a 100% VOICE TRACKED STATION with nearly all of the DJ's from FRESNO SISTER STATION, KRZR-103.7. On MARCH 18, 2005, after a week of stunting, KMRQ tweaked its format from ACTIVE ROCK to MODERN ROCK and became NEW ROCK 96.7 . This apparently wasn't successful as Clear Channel pulled the plug on NEW ROCK 96.7 and it became SPANISH OLDIES- LA PRECIOSA 96.7 . On JUNE 7, 2007, STOCKTON SISTER STATION, KWSX-1280 dropped NEWSTALK (simulcast of KFIV-1360) in favor of a simulcast of LA PRECIOSA 96.7 . Well on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2008 at 5:pM, ACTIVE ROCK returned to 96.7 but at the same time, ACTIVE ROCK is now on AM 1280, yes, KWSX-1280 is still simulcasting 96.7 . I hear it maybe temporary but it is weird listening to METALLICA, TOOL, KORN and DISTURBED being broadcast on the AM Dial.

Congrats to you guys. Here in Tampa our PD and his bosses @ CC are stuck in 1996! We are tired of the same crap Green Day,Pearl Jam,Soundgarden,311,Smashing Punkins and the rest of the grunge being played every damn hour for years! And New Music? yeah maybe about 10 songs in the whole rotation every few hours. LAME! We need a rock station here that plays the "New" Active Rock bands of Today!

Actually when KMRQ "tweaked" their format in 1995 the ratings were better than they had been in years. They flipped to Preciosa a day or two before the book came out. KMRQ was #2 Men 18-49 only behind a Spanish Language station. In other words #1 amongst English speaking men 18-49. I'd call that pretty successful. The failure was their inability to sell the station. Period.

In terms of (I'm assuming WXTB) the Tampa station playlist. Rock and alternative from the 90's through about 2002 test better than any other category. Most recurrents don't test and their hasn't been a decent core band hit the scene since System Of A Down and Linkin Park. Breaking Benjamin doesn't count. More often than not Active Rock programmers are relying on the aforementioned category because very little since 2002 researches well.

Actually KMRQ tweaked their format in 2005, not 1995, but it is most likely a typo. And I agree that CC didn't sell the station and they pulled the plug TOO EARLY to go SPANISH.

You might want to enlighten me on the "recurrent"?

The testings dont included 80s hair metal! Also big bands such as Disturbed,Godsmack,Slipknot,5 Finger,Shinedown,Kid Rock,Metallica,AcDc,TheoryofaDeadman, + more all do well for new music. If I was a PD...ok (If), I would hit people with as much New Rock as possible and throw in songs from the past that "were big hits" from the 80s hairbands-Metal to the big hits of the grunge. Mostly keep the station @ 75-80% new Active Rock!

I think the testings are done badly!
