Rockford Cumulus – Killed the Golden Goose

Rockford Cumulus, still under Code Red has been ordered to do what ever takes.

1. In morning drive yesterday WZOK again ran 20 minutes of commercials. Isn’t the station in the middle of the spring book?

2. The Eagle was running commercials promoting a competitor’s (WXRX’s Wingding) concert. Why?

3.Salespeople were locked in the building for three days this month and told to call every client, even the ones currently advertising and give them a fire sale package to spend more. In the busiest month of the year? Lock the salespeople in the building?

4. Has Code Red Killed the Goose or will someone now be shot?

1. ZOK has been running 20 units an hour in morning drive for sometime, now. That's nothing new. Their attitude is people will listen to WZOK regardless of spot loads or personalities. This is the same reason they hired a morning personality a few months ago with NO EXPERIENCE...because they can.

2. The Wing Ding spot that aired ran only one time (it aired a week ago last Tuesday). It ran in the middle of the Eagle Program Director's shift. The question should be...is the sales manager really so desperate that she will take a commercial and run it on her station that is promoting a competitor's event. I guess so. Code Red

Actually I counted this morning and its 16 units for amd and appears to be 14 outside of mornings.

Every station I have ever worked for locks the sales department in two to three times a year for a sale. Back in 2002 when I sold for B96 in Chicago we got locked in five times that year and we were at 24 units an hour. Gotta do what you gotta do to hit the numbers.

Don't look for anyone at the cloud company getting shot any time soon. They are off the Code Red list according to a friend of mine that works there and she also said that they have already hit their June budget.

As far as them hiring someone with no experience, I think you're wrong. I remember reading that she came from Mix in Champaign. And if she did have no experience, so what, she is doing a great job fitting in.

Does it really matter how much experience she has? It's Rockford for Christ's Sake!!!

It's the minor leagues and thats where people are supposed to work till they get good at what they do. And I agree ith Monkey that she does a great job on the station and overall the station doesn't sound too bad. Way better then anything Maverick is putting on. I listend to Sean Henry the other day and seriously considered suicide. BORING!!!!!!!!

did they ever replace sky? "radio_radio" posted in another thread "The Eagle will hire the best talent in Rockford and put it back on the station" were you talking about sky? mcmurray?

Stand-by for the Cumulus sale of Rockford!!! With the secret "due diligence" going on, what else could it be? They have been on the rocks for several years and have lost most of the good people.

They ran a Wing Ding commercial! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
That is SOOOO funny I almost Brizz'd my pants!!!

So, I've been hearing some "The Classic Rock Station" tags. Is the Eagle no longer "Classic Rock that Really Rocks"? And who's the new guy?

I noticed the new "The Classic Rock Station" tags the other day. I also noticed the music isnt quite as hard as it used to be either, it sounds similar to the old Y95 Classic Rock format.

I turned off Sirius for about 5 minutes just to listen to the eagle and they have softened up just a little bit... Now Briz just needs to learn how to open up the play list a little more... Wonder would the folks down in the ATL let him do that!!! Now back to Sirius where I have all the rock music I can stand with Buzzsaw, Classic Vinyl, Classic Rewind, and my wife's fave Hair Nation... CC1

Yeah Cumulus does have pretty tight reigns on the songs lists don't they!
At least I have Sirius on my dish so I can jam it out while reading radio-info.com!
It is unfortunate though, I WANT to listen to REAL radio, it just has that old familiar "feel",
but it's tough when I have to endlessly flip stations to hear SOMETHING I like.
I know it's off topic here, but seriously what can be done to make radio better? (i.e. not suck)
I swear the audience estimates absolutley cannot be correct with the way radio is today.
I see talk about stations in other markets hoping to crack a 2 share!?!
A 2 share of what? 300,000 people? So your magic number is 6,000?
Wow.
Anyway, like I said off topic.

The "new guy" at The Eagle is a dear friend of mine. He's a really good guy. Make your opinion of his talent. I am obviously biased, as we've been friends for 15 years and he got me my first job.
