Rocky Mount's 98.5 The Big Dawg (WDWG) simulcast on AM 960?

Flipping through the AM dial Sunday, I heard WDWG "98.5 The Big Dawg" being simulcast on AM 960...I assume WRNS/Kinston. Don't they usually simulcast WRNS-FM 95.1? Is this something new or just some sort of malfunction?

I just checked and 960 is simulcasting 95.1

95.1/960 has simulcasted for a long time with the exception of 960 doing the Kinston Indians.. It should be FCC rules that you can't do this. Rather that do this put the AM up for sale or turn in the license and save the expense.960 I think its 5,000 watts and with its dial position it has good carry. 960 should have a seperate format. Just my humble opinion.

It was separate for awhile. 960 The Wolf I believe it was called.

I've always found that odd, too, that they keep the 960/95.1 simulcast. I don't know the details of their contract with the "K-Tribe", but running/maintaining an AM plant isn't cheap. Always thought they should have paired 960 with 930 WDLX in Washington when they were co-owned as either news/talk--which WDLX was--or sports talk.

The simulcast was discussed but never done. WANG-1330 was to be included as well.

That deal would have really expanded Pirate Radio's coverage..Too bad it fell through..

Allen can verify this, I have a love for the 960 frequency as it was the first radio station I ever worked at in 1981, W F T C 960 am "The Voice of Kinston" Mike Farley was my pd and I worked with the great Eddie Dee.

I know Chris. Its a shame what has been allowed to happen to some of the heritage stations in the area 590,1420, 960 etc..
