Rodney's Atlanta & Company story/ re: firfer

Had to laugh at the Poynter Institute professor/critic who defended WXIA's ethical position, saying: "At least they're not using journalists on the show." I have a visual of the CNN newsroom execs spewing coffee across the room as they read that. Ironic that it takes a year of local morning radio to negate years of Firfer's (mostly anonymous) work at CNN.

This didn't make it into the story but I called CNN and the network spokeswoman said they were still using Holly Firfer as a freelancer on health stories and occasional CNN Headline News fill ins until early July. They said they stopped using her because she was doing endorsements for Dave FM. She ended her ties with CNN before she got her gig at "Atlanta & Company."

The show so far has done paid advertorials for Advanced Kitchens, Goodie's Family Stores, Woodstock Furniture Outlet, Appliance Smart Factory Outlet, and Southeast Dairy Organizations. Ryan has noted that these are paid segments at the end of each segment and at the end of the show. Plus, a host of nonprofits including Hands on Atlanta, Boys & Girls Club, Salvation Army and the Atlanta Humane Society. Holly has talked about her move to a new home. Ryan gabbed about the Falcons and golf.
