Defender’s Roland Martin Debuts as New Midday Host at “The Talk of Chicago”

On October 3rd, executive editor of The Chicago Daily Defender, Roland Martin, made his debut on WVON 1450AM/The Talk of Chicago as the new midday host from 10am – 1pm, replacing hosts Matt McGill and Perri Small.

Martin, a nationally award-winning journalist and syndicated columnist with Creators Syndicate, the founding editor of BlackAmericaweb.com and currently the executive editor of The Chicago Defender, is a frequent commentator on TV-One, CNN, MSNBC, FOX, and Black Entertainment Television (BET). He is also the author of Speak, Brother! A Black Man’s View of America. Additionally, he is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), the American Society of Newspapers Editors and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Other staff changes at the “Talk of Chicago” include:

-Keisha Chavers, producer of “The Cliff Kelley Show” and “First Light with Sharon McGhee,” is the Director of Station Relations;
-Jerry Riles, formerly of the WSCR 670AM is the producer of “The Cliff Kelley
Show”; and
-Annette Flournoy replaces Sharon McGhee as news director.

Chavers, has been the producer of the award-winning program, “The Cliff
Kelley Show,” for the last 13 years, but has been an employee with WVON for 15 years. She began her career as an intern, then as the producer of “World Objective with Stan West,” and eventually landing the position as executive producer for the station and Kelley’s producer.

Formerly a producer at WBEZ (91.5FM) and a production assistant at WBBM 780AM, Flournoy left her position as the morning-drive reporter and midday anchor at Citadel Broadcasting to join Metro Networks/Westwood One as the news director for WVON.

An award-winning sports producer at WSCR 670AM, Riles brings his brand of radio expertise to “The Talk of Chicago” as the producer of “The Cliff Kelley Show.” Prior to WVON, Riles was the executive producer of “Monsters of the Midway with Dan Jiggetts.”
