Ron Godbey (ex-WBAP/KXAS/5 weatherman), remembered...

Hate to hear that, and wish I'd paid closer attention to this board so I could have attended the services. Thanks for letting us know. Ron emailed me a couple of years ago to let me know he was alive and well, and was "glad to see his name wasn't listed on my Death Roll yet" (on www.knus99.com.) Sad to say that he will be, now. For those you don't remember, Ron co-authored that outstanding book, "Texas Weather," along with Harold Taft. It was merely a $2 little paperback that sold at 5-and-dime stores around the area in the mid-1970s, but far as I'm concerned, packed a strong punch as THE guide to the subject...and brought a lot of the technical terms and processes down to laymen's terms and understandability. A great read and wonderful reference source that stands the test of time. Sorry to say that I never got to meet Ron or Harold, but God rest both their souls. I believe David Finfrock was hired to replace Ron when Ron left KXAS for greener pastures around 1976.

:'(

I still have a handed-down copy of that book I got from a teacher in 5th grade, it started my curiosity and nurturied my respect for the weather in this part of the country.

I still have mine, autographed by both Harold and Ron...
